Ahh, the Zallinger Hutte: Saturday, June 2, 2012 The hike from Tiers to The Zallinger Hutte was just Stunning! It had everything: Idyllic Tyrolean Wonderland, Yosemite-like Forests, and Via Ferrata above the treeline. Tyrolean Wonderlands look make believe. Acres and acres of manicured fields, pocket forests of fir and pine, and farm houses that look like they're out of a fairy tale. I could stop hundreds of times to take photos, but they're all equally nice, a few representative photos here is enough. The Yosemite-like forest is nice too,...

Jun 1, 2012 - Thursday: Bolzano to Tiers

So Far So Good: Thursday, May 31, 2012. Success! I made it to Tires, or let's call it Tiers since we are getting deep into German speaking territory. But either way it is aptly named because I was very “tired” and was almost to the point of “tears”. So, I'm resting my poor body today. No injuries. No sunburn. No severe cold. No major detours. No rain. No snow. Reasonable timing. Great fun with map following. I have achy shoulders where the backpack straps go, and sore legs, that's all. Jun 1, 2012 - Friday: Rest Day at Tiers

This is such a scenic paradise up here. Hiking seams to be the main interest for the few tourists that are here. I met two German couples today that are using the town as a base camp for day hikes. They said they just hiked the shorter route that I want to go and that it is easy and has no snow. And that the Hut at the top of this route is opening early-today in fact (June 1). That is the Tierser Alpi Hutte-maybe one to stay at in the future. My trusty Tobacco Map shows a pretty long via ferrata part to this way so I didn't initially plan...
