Sep 20, 2011 - A Surprise While Tracing Italian Roots

Again the plan was to get out early.  Again we failed. Today off to Sora.  Where is Sora?, you ask.  Right outside Rome.  What?  Why are you going there?, you should ask.  Debra's husband's family are from Sora.  Debra wanted to see it to report back to Charlie.  The town is in none of the tourist books.  Not expecting much. Took us almost three hours to get there.  Yes, of course that included a stop at the Autogrill. What a lovely few days!!! We left the Naples area and headed to an "agriturismo" at the foot of the Abruzzo Mountains in central Italy. I had heard about a business called "Italy Farm Stay" and that they encouraged camping on their property along with the rooms they rented out. So we headed there and called and they were happy to accomodate us. It is run by a very enterprising young man, Antonello Siragusa, who somehow roped his parents, Giuseppe and Maria, into opening their home. It is like a B&B but it is a working farm and the hosts...
