1. The Trio There was this Belgian, this American and this Belgian Congon. They were standing in the dark in the car park area at our villa when we returned after aperitivos a few days back. They were perplexed. I don’t blame them as we had had a similar experience upon our first arrival. No lights, no signs to indicate that you were in the correct ‘villas’ and no indication where to rouse the management. The image, indeed the manifestation, the reality, could have well been ripped from the canvas of a nostalgic Hollywood blockbuster or just as readily torn from an ancestor’s album of curling miniscule sepia photographs. The breeze was stiff in the early morning light which gently touched the rolling hills, freshly dressed in their just ploughed fields. Falling in Love – San Giovanni d’Asso – 22 September The café, strategically located opposite the large square embracing the Gare de Lyon , was in the throws of attempting to open. An already weary waiter, or perhaps the owner, was lifting each section of grill that surrounded and protected the trees of the sidewalk in front of his cafe.
