Jun 1, 2016 - Bus Ride of a Life Time

Today we had the last of our breakfast items and walked down the hill to Amalfi. We walked down the highway to a small town called Atrani. Just off the beach you turn into the town square. We had lunch in the town square. I had bruschetta and calamari and Elton ordered a hamburger with cheese and french fries. My meal was great. Elton's meal was good as well. FYI a hamburger with cheese means just that a burger patti with cheese - no bun. It was good but not what we were expecting. Really enjoyed the meals and walked back down the highway...

Nov 30, 2011 - Ravello

@@@@@@@ BACKGROUND Apparently Gore Vidal stated that Ravello has the best views in the entire world. Virginia Wolf and DH Lawrence must have agreed because they loved to come and relax in the sun and gentle breezes. The town sits high in the hills above Amalfi, and a hair-raising road leads from one town to the other. The cathedral was built in AD 1086 so it is clear that many visitors have enjoyed the view for hundreds of years. The year round population is a mere 2500. KAPOORS ON THE ROAD The road to Ravello was all that it was cracked up...

Sep 28, 2010 - Amalfi coast via Pompei

We had a passenger today. Tessa rode with us for complicated reasons to do with getting something fixed on the vehicle she should have been travelling in and her wanting to visit Pompei. Anyway it was great to have her company for a day. We travelled south from Rome on the motorway until we came to the turn off for Herculaneum (Ercolano) after 234 kilometres. I wanted to visit this site as I had already visited Pompei (in 1975) but Robin and Tessa had visited neither so we compromised by visiting both. Herculaneum is a gem. It is small...

Dec 31, 2007 - Rauello

Monday, New Years Eve, we took the bus up out of Amalfi to Ravello, a village high above Amalfi on the rocky spur separating Valle del Dragone from the Valle del Reginna that commands a spectacular view over a large stretch of the coastline. It also is full of history and art. If we ever get the opportunity to return to the Amalfi Coast we will choose to spend a night or two up there. The buses that go this way are small to compensate for the sharp, hairpin curves and narrow roads. On the way back to Amalfi on the bus, about the time we...

Sep 26, 2007 - Positano - a must return

My first sleep in. Open the french doors onto a beautiful day in Postiano. Breakfast with 2 Americans that have just cycled through Tuscany then off to get my bus ticket, a walk up the hill and off to Amalfi. Met Mimi (Aussie lady) on the bus and then Kerry & Cindi (also Aussie ladies) - we decided all to go to Ravello. In a taxi and the four Shirley Valentines were off on an adventure - I found the idyllic spot to get married in - absolutely beautiful, you have to be there - I plan to return. Lunch and we all shared many a laugh and lots...
