Sep 24, 2013 - Vineyards in Chianti

We had a private wine tour today in the Chianti region. The first one was a family run vineyard run by father and son. They only produce around 10,000 bottles. The son said it is more of a traditional/wine passion operation than a money making venture. Bigger yet still smaller producing about 80,000 bottles. What was so interesting about this one is they akso produce balsamic vinegar. Very good year for wine. This means "I think therefore I am, I am therefore I think". Cute story came with it, but I won't bore you. The grape skins are...

Sep 23, 2013 - Radda Chianti

We left Firenze via train and while there, we spotted a McDonalds and Harold wanted "American" coffee. So as he enjoyed his coffee another couple sat next to us. Harold said something to them and OMG, they were from Baton Rouge! !! They couldn't believe it either. The States, yes but not from the same city. We chatted a short while and found out they were headed to Prague to visit their son. This guy is a big LSU fan too, so him and Harold hit it off. Once in Radda we explored the town. Shout out to Dad.....coffee here is not big...

Sep 22, 2013 - On to Italy

This was pretty much a travel day. We learned from Zurich and got our tickets the day before. A very nice girl told us exactly what track to catch the train and what car, down to the seats we had. So it made today much better. We went from Lucerne to Firenze (Florence) via Milano. Once in Florence our driver met us and we traveled for an hour to Radda Chianti. They drive on the same side as in the US, but it was crazy. Harold grabbed my hand a few times because I was pointing every time the driver did something crazy (like hitting a...

Oct 22, 2010 - Chianti, Italy

Friday, October 22, 2010. The objective this morning was to explore the backcountry of Chianti (no highways), find a church for tomorrow (Saturday) and taste some Chianti wine. It was another very nice day as we headed into the hills. We found ourselves back at the small castle Monteriggioni where I drove right into the main square. Talk about brash Americans. But the girls checked out the small Santa Maria church in the castle (Mass on Sunday) and a charming Ristorante da Remo practically next door to the church where they made a...
