Jun 6, 2019 - Goodbye Sardinia and hello Elba

Friday 24 May Left Sardinia and headed for a group of islands off the south east coast of Corsica. These islands, including Cavallo, where we anchored, where a very unique landscape – many contorted and weather rocks just stacked up reaching out of water. Saturday 25 – Monday 27 May As the weather is changing it’s time to push on so we headed further north and anchored near Porto Vecchio which will be home for the next couple of days. Had to re-anchor a couple of times – dragged in soft mud. Took diesel which was a bit stressful as the wind...

Summer 2019

Sep 19, 2018 - CROSSING: Isle Giannutri, Italy to HBR. Portoferraio, Elba. (3:00am to 12:30pm)

Well, so not be the case of sleeping late! Jacques was up a little after 2:00a.m., and not liking what the wind was doing, thought it be best if we leave. So, up with the anchor, and off we go at 3:00a.m. From my bed, I was rollling back/forth and side/side, it was felt like medium close-together rollers. Tonight Elba, Italy tomorrow Imperia, France, and on into Cannes and Vieux...

A walled fortress dominates the old town and historically protected its sheltered harbour/yacht basin. We chose another leisurely start to the day as I did some writing and Brenda worked out. We met up with Penny to...

Jun 19, 2011 - Elba and the Wind Spirit

What a treat to be dockside as we can get on and off the yacht at will vs. waiting for the tender. We were on the island of Elba, in the capital city of Portoferraio (think Napoleon) and Robert jumped off early to find a camera store as his lens needed cleaning. He returned to the cabin with a small bag for me and a dirty lens – it was Sunday and everything was closed but the farmers market. In the market he bought me an Italian purse – cute, small, flower pattern, turquoise and actually made in Italy. I was very happy. We jumped on board...
