Sep 16, 2011 - Wine and New (Old) Friends

Late start.  Sandy & Jack planned a bike ride then a tour of Orvieto.  We all puttered around the house.  Finally got going around 11:30. Sonya wanted to go to a winery while she is in Italy so we head back to Montefalco.  I read about a winery, Antonelle San Marco, on tripadviser so we went there. It is a large producer.  Nice winery facility with vines everywhere.  We roamed around the showroom a bit then did the tasting.  Interestingly the wine I liked best was the white.  (I usually prefer the reds).  Sonya agreed.  Bought 3 bottles....

Sep 12, 2011 - Alone again. At last.

Of course I made it.  Sorry to make folks worry for so long!  Still red though. Sonya, Sandy and Jack are going to Assisi without me today.  No, it's not that I'm dying.  I think I did enough of Assisi last week. They all agreed to be on the road at 9.  I got up round 8:30 to see them off.  First one downstairs.  Then Sandy who immediately made coffee.  Thanks.  Then Sonya fully dressed and ready to go.  (Sandy still in bathrobe). No Jack.  The ladies have cereal.  No Jack.  Finally, Jack stirs.  (I think Sandy went upstairs and poked him)....

Sep 10, 2011 - Some Leave Some Arrive

Patrice and Lisa arranged to leave later today on their journey ton the Amalfi Coast.  Their train didn't leave until 1pm.  We got up a bit late but we were all ready before 10 because that is when the cleaning folks were dropping off the linens.  Turns out that is 10 Italian time.  The maintenance guy did arrive around 10 to change the light bulbs and make sure the outside lights finally worked.  The replacement sheets and towels finally arrived.  Lisa & I made the beds.  Some of you reading this are thinking, what, Aimee's doing...

Sep 9, 2011 - Friends Leaving and Day at the Pool

This may have been my favorite day but for one thing.  Jackie and Kay left.  I took them to the Folignio station in the morning.  Patrice and Lisa slept through that little adventure. Patrice, Lisa and I had a fabulous day of doing nothing.  Ate a lovely breakfast.  Sat around a bit. Went down to the pool.  Nice!  Patrice made us a pitcher of Umbrian Lemonade (fizzy bottled lemonade with vodka).  Fabulouso.  The water is so cold but it's a bit easier to brave the water with a drink in your hand.  Actually got a little pink.  Boy I miss...

Sep 4, 2011 - Lazy Sunday

Slept in this morning.  Not going to do anything today but enjoy my house.  Oh, and do laundry. Love hearing the church bells.  No, wait.  Now all the dogs in town have to bark.  Ugh. Big wind whipping up.  Shutter are bashing against the side of the house.  Looks like rain.  While that would be great for the olives, I am absolutely terrified that the rain will cause mud on the driveway and I won't be able to get out tonight to get Lisa and Patrice.  Not only do I need company, I don't want them stranded.  Who am I kidding, I don't want to...

Sep 3, 2011 - Getting To Know The Area

Slept much better last night.  Might actually have felt a breeze!  Woke up a bit early.  Fillipo and I are going into town to figure out this Internet situation once and for all.  Went down to reception.  Ran into some of the Australian women.  My 50th birthday celebration apparently inspired them!!  I invited them for cocktails one night next week. Fillipo drove me to Spoleto in his Land Rover (what else would the landed gentry drive).  I should mention that Poreta is the country like Highlands is a small mountain town.  I thought the...

Sep 2, 2011 - First Day At The House

Woke up and had breakfast on the loggia.  Chocolate spread on these little preprepared toast pieces (not like Melba toast).  Yum.  Also had a Sweepes soda made with red grapefruit juice.  Good choice.    Hear a rooster crow.  Romantic the first 20 times.  Turns out those things don't just crow as the  sun comes up. Lazy today.  Unpacked, hung out, caught up on journaling,  read.  About twelve I still hadn't heard from Fillipo so I stretched out on the sofa outside.  Had a quick snooze.  Woke up and called those dang "hosts" of mine.  No...

Sep 1, 2011 - Where Is My House?

Woke up a bit late.  No breakfast again.  Managed to get the luggage down the tiny elevator, checked out.  Charged for internet, need to remember to check in future.  I have to say this is a clever hotel.  You have a key for the door and one for the electricity.  When you leave you have to take the electricity key and you have to have the room key to even close the door.  At night there is a light over bed that isn't connected to any switch so you have to remove the electricity key to even sleep.  Impressed with their clever...
