Tuscany In the morning we were treated to a private tour of a nearby castle and visited with the caretakers who live there. The next stop was a walk through more countryside to a Chianti winery where we sampled three different local wines (two red and one white) complete with a "light" lunch - salad, bread, and lots of cheese. We all needed a good break after that, so we went back to the hotel until late afternoon when we drove to San Gemignano, a hilltop town famous for its 14 remaining towers - like Rapunzel would have let her hair down...

Jun 3, 2006 - Tuscan Fauna

Was thinking about a few things and realised that I didn't tell you much about the wildlife in Tuscany as opposed to the flora and the rocks. Well, when we were at the Villa Gamberaia gardens, admiring one lovely garden room, through it hopped a big hare !! Just like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, could imagine him glancing at his watch before speeding off. Half an hour later we saw him dash through another part of the garden, obviouosly didn't bring his map ! Also in that garden, Don Arnoldo discovered a small dark enclave behind...
