Jul 17, 2009 - Valle D'Aoste, Italy

Valle d’Aoste is a county in Italy that is also the designation of a wine growing region. I hooked up with Chris, the owner of the wine bar “Hotel Biron” in San Francisco. He was traveling with a friend in Italy doing wine tasting and Adite and I joined them for a tour of Les Crestes winery. This winery produces several local varietals including the interesting fumin, which is Italian for “smoky”. The fumin grape gets its name from the gray color of the skin of the grape.
