Thursday, October 11. Montevarchi and San Giovanni Traveling with a bladder infection is a pain in more ways than one. I've learned to go into a bar/cafe and buy a bottle of water in order to use the "Toilette." Emerging from one such visit, I noticed John on full protective macho alert. A couple of shifty guys were hovering outside. One approached me and wanted to know how much my water was. (Why ask me? Go buy your own, I thought.) Again, How much did I pay for my water? . Oct 9, 2012 - Exploring Tuscany, the Valdarno

Sunday-Tuesday, October 7-9 The Valley of the Arno, Tuscany This side of the River Arno are the lesser known hill towns, all with old medieval strongholds encasing living villages in the center of town. Sunday we went exploring, climbing as high as the road would take us, stopping to peek into ancient Romanesque churches from the 1200 and 1300's or wandering through seemingly deserted streets where remodeled homes share walls with crumbling stone ones. Oct 6, 2012 - Amalfi Coast to Podere Botro, our Tuscan farm

October 5 -6, Minori to Lake Trasimono, Umbria, then on to the farm John put his finger on a blue spot on the map, just shy of our next committed destination, and said, "Let's try to make it that far." The little blue dot was Lake Trasimono, in Umbria. The sunset over the lake viewed from our hotel balcony was beautiful. But that's all we liked. The water in the lake is so far down that the piers stretch over mudflats. The waitress in the restaurant was rude. When John sent back an unappetizing plate of tagliatoni with mushrooms she told...
