Feb 8, 2015 - Tiempietto and Carbonara

Today I was able to see the temple built by Bramante on Janiculum Hill. Supposedly on the site where Peter was crucified, upside down because he felt he wasnt worthy to be killed the way Christ was. Its a beautiful little of the High Renaissance style. Very small with 16 interesting Doric cloumns. The frieze and entableture are very interesting as well. Afterwards we met my friend Salavatore and he took us to his favorite restaurant, Da Carlone, #5 Via Del Luce Near Isola Tiber, or the little island in the river. Reservations only, even for...

Feb 6, 2015 - Neutering and Pilates

Well, apparently Italy still has one foot in the masculine dark ages. Of all the pilates classes ive inquired about, none have men. The teachers told me Italian men just dont take, pilates. Then June, the owner of the house im staying,in said vets are very reluctant to neuter a male dog. Spay a female? In a heartbeat, but dont touch the family jewels of Rover. Its,just not done, except in exceptional circumstance. I might get mat certified and come to Rome. Quite a niche market for a male pilates mat teacher. Figure with my accordion...

Feb 5, 2015 - .44 Magnum Sim Card

We need to talk. Whats wrong with this Picture. Yesterday I went to buy a small sim card for my cell phone. Spent an hour there and it wouldn't work. I was told at home it was "unlocked", but,the guy at the store worked and worked on it and said it was not unlocked. Another long story this, but what was more interesting was to get this little teeny 10$ wafer i needed a passport and had to sign at least 5 documents, finger prints etc. Now I was in North Dakota over Thanksgiving and because there was not much to do( read nothing) we went to...

Feb 3, 2015 - Two Blind Mice

Daniella is the name of the eccentric next door neighbor. A Vegan and if i ever mentioned hunting i would be driven out of the little animal-centered neighborhood. Well, i had to telephone her this morning cause she had asked June if I could take her ro get her car which had been repaired. I practiced what id say in Italian, she speaks NO english and it went prett well. I heard her say "cinque minuti" so i was deloghted when i pulled the car up and she came out the door. We carried on a charade-like conversation and she had me drop her off...

Feb 2, 2015 - Toll Road mysteries

Today I took June to the airport for her flightto Australia. She was pretty neurotic but happy I was there to watch Ugo. I promised to do some house repair for her and that was reassuring for her. Toll roads are a challenge for a foreigner. You have to read the cues before tou get there and most people are driving pretty fast. June advised me,to look for the picture with a hand on it. That means there is a person to take your money and, give change. You pull up and a little screen says how much it is. You given he "hand" money and you get...

Feb 1, 2015 - Fearless Flying

Flying standby on American Airlines is a real adventure. Never 100% sure youre getting on. As soon as I reached Sfo gate i was already cleared and the ticket agent said I was cleared at JFK as well. Never happened before. After landing in Milano, 1hour late i hustled over to Easy Jet terminal and easily made my flight to Rome. Easy Jet is a breath of fresh air compared to Ryan Air. Great service and new planes i was very impressed. 1 hour flight took me to Rome airport, and June(never met or seen her before) i IDd me by my white cap and...
