Sunday: Aaahhh! The smell of truffles is in the air and once again by 10am the town is becoming congested with people. We put the truffles on hold as yesterday we had arranged to do a morning tour called Alba Subterranea. This tour was designed to go under the city to look at some of the Roman and Medieval remains. The group was large and we were the only English speakers so they had organized for two young students to accompany us to translate. Oct 28, 2010 - Alba, in the land of truffles

Not only does Alba have wine and truffles, it has wine and truffle festivals. And we just happened to arrive right smack in the middle of a monthlong festival! WOW! Our apartment was in the heart of old town and if you needed a good location to quickly remove thoughts of having to leave Lucca, Alba would be a good choice. Now it did take four trains to get to Alba, but that's part of the good news. It deters a lot of tourists from visiting, which is just fine with us. Now don't get us wrong.
