Sep 15, 2011 - Sept 15, 2011 first day in Milan

Today we took our free shuttle back to the airport to meet Ron and Marty who were flying in this morning from Arizona. From there we all took the train then the subway and arrived just a block from our hotel, Nuovo Marghera. After checking into our hotel, we walked a couple miles around this area of Milan, visiting the Basilica of Sant' Ambrogio (St Ambrose) and Santa Maria dell Grazie.

Sep 14, 2011 - Somme Lombardo

We arrived in Milan in the morning. We found a nice little hotel with a free shuttle to and from the airport in the small village of Somme Lombarde about 20 minutes from the airport. We arrived a day ahead of our travel companions, Marty & Ron, and planned on meeting them at the Milan airport the next day. The weather was perfect, warm, sunny, so we strolled around the small village during the day. The hotel, Tre Leone, had wonderful hospitality. We had a delicious late lunch of spaghetti, fresh tomato and fresh basil at the hotel...

Sep 5, 2011 - Lucerne, Switzerland to Milan, Italy

Monday, September 5: Left Lucerne, Switzerland and headed south into Italy through the magnificent Gotthard Pass. The narrow roads were insane with sharp turns and switchbacks. The fog was very thick on the Swiss side of the Pass and we were all concerned that we would not be able to see the breathtaking views, let alone continue safely. However, when we started to descend into Italy, the clouds parted and the sun was brilliant, revealing the most beautiful valley below. We spent some time in Lugano, Italy on the way to Lake Como. Lots of...

Jul 12, 2011 - On to Milan

July 11th We sadly said goodbye to Bellagio Monday morning. We chose a different route back to Milan, opting to take the slow boat on Lake Como to Como at the south end of the lake and then train it to Milan. It was sunny and hot and we sat at the prow of the boat marvelling at the picturesque towns and opulent villas as we cruised by. After two hours leisurely cruising we reached Como, the largest center on the lake and much more bustling than the other towns we had visited. We located the nearest train station and bought two tickets to...

Jul 10, 2011 - Milan

Milan, Italy hard to believe we are here in the 'fashion capital'. Really hot today caught metro/subway train into city and checked out all the popular tourist sights. Many beautifully dressed people and an interesting city. The HUGE cathedral is very imposing in the plaza with its white marble exterior and massive steeples. Inside is just as impressive and a quite, cool solace on a hot day. Many people taking time out to sit and reflect. Security was tight and you could not enter with bare shoulders or hats on. The most amazing sight in...

Jul 9, 2011 - Milan

On the road again heading into Italy, Milan. We decided to take the scenic route and we went up, up and up the mountains, then down, zig zag fashion, then through (5km one way tunnel) and the around and down again, definitely scenic!! We arrived at our Hotel (2km) from city centre (thanks to GPS) and after a rest enjoyed our first Italian meal at a 'Steak House', excellent, thumbs up to Italian food! The waiter was great and helped us with our very limited Italian.

Jul 9, 2011 - Shopping, shopping, shopping!

Ciao Ciao! It is hard to believe I have been in Milan for only less than two days. It feels like I've been here a week already! We have done SO MANY THINGS since I've gotten here, and Serena says these haven't even been busy days at all! Last night, Alessio, Serena, and I went out for Aperitivos, which they describe as Happy Hour, but trust me - it is much better than any Happy Hour I've ever been to in the States! The way it works is you only have to pay for discounted drinks (we had a bottle of red wine, obviously) and then there is an...

Jul 8, 2011 - Made it to Milano!

I made it to Milan! The flight was so easy, I slept the entire time! Serena and Alessio were waiting for me right as I walked out of my gate. We headed to Alessio's house, where his mom prepared a delicious homemade pasta lunch for us! After taking some time to freshen up, we headed out to explore Milan. We mainly just walked around the city, finding all the best places for Serena and me to come back and shop tomorrow! We walked up to this huge church in the middle of the city, and also saw a museum that holds the original Last Supper...

Jun 14, 2011 - The last supper

We are now in Italy, my long awaited dream destination, at least one of them. After waking up at 5:30 am we had to go through a long string of trains to get to Milan. We got here at around 12:00 and had to take tye metro over to see The Last Supper!!!! Not many people get the opportunity to see the last supper because you have to make reservations early in advance (eric made ours about 3 months ago) and only about 30 people can go in at a time. When we arrived we got there an hour early so we popped over to a small cafe and after getting...

May 4, 2011 - Milan, and the end of my time in Italy

As all great things must do, my time in Italy started coming to an end. Tuesday afternoon I had to leave Amy and Bologna behind me to head for Milan, where my flight was to leave the next day. I had purposefully not left myself much time in Milan because I had not heard super good things about it, but I was pleasantly surprised! It helped that the people at my hostel were incredibly nice and gave me an ever trusty map. That evening I managed to stroll down the length of Buenos Aires, the longest shopping street in Europe (or the world?)...

May 3, 2011 - BMW Welt

I woke up early at the very nice Leonardo Royal Hotel and had a great breakfast. Then it was off down the road to BMW Welt. What a great building. They took my suitcase and directed me up to the owner’s delivery lounge. The paperwork was quickly completed (all in German which I requested to add to the experience) and I was escorted down the stairs to where my new car was waiting. It looked great, the only minor issue is that it was built with an automatic, and I had requested a manual. Not to worry apparently, they’ll build another...

Apr 3, 2011 - Milan - April 1-3

April 1-3, 2011 Milan, Italy I hadn’t really thought about taking too many trips whilst I waited for Elizabeth to get her visa but this weekend was the Milan derby and I decided to bite the bullet, pay the extortionate amount and go and see one of the biggest matches in world football. I won’t tell you how much the match ticket was (because Elizabeth might read this and kill me)! Having found out that the lovely Italians were on strike again, my train on Friday evening was severely delayed getting into the city and when I got there, no...
