We arrived in Savona, Italy this morning. We took the bus provided by the cruise to the main shopping area and did some shopping. We spotted a cool little tour train that looked like it would be a fun one to ride. The price was reasonable, about $7 Euros a piece. We had to wait about 30 minutes for the next ride, I took time to take pictures of the area while we waited. We finally got on the train and it took us about a mile into the city, someone crossed the street in front of the train, he had to hit the breaks really fast and it broke...

Jun 3, 2012 - Our first taste of Italy

We arrive in Milan at 7 in the morning – a bus to central station where we board our train to Savona. Neat farms, winter wheat ready to harvest, maize a metre high, flood irrigation. No cattle or beasts. Excellent roads, nice cars, stop means hesitate at best, pedestrian crossings you use at your own risk in contrast to Cape Town where the cars would stop if you paused on the sidewalk. Good rail system, big container yards. Apartments everywhere climbing the hills both old and new. We finally reach our hotel at midday – a quick lunch,...
