Dec 4, 2005 - Rome, Italy

December 4 - We woke up very early today to take the fast train from Fidenza to Rome. If all works well, we should arrive by 12pm. Well, we love those Italian fast trains (even though we had to pay a supplement and reservation fee) because we actually arrived 10 minutes early. Unbelievable! We checked into our B&B Giovy right across the train station and were very satisfied with the establishment. Right after, we took the subway and then the tram to the Olympic stadium in hopes of finding tickets to a Futbol game. A friend recommended we...

Nov 30, 2005 - From Roma to Positano

Good Morning all. It is a overcast and damp day here in Roma. We are preparing to depart Micks place (he is very nicely picking us later and taking us to the train station at Termini) and catch a train to Naples. We then catch another train to Sorrento and then a bus from Sorrento to Positano. Expect to be in our hotel in Positatno by about 1500 today. Will provide the link to the hotel later so that you can all see where we are staying. When I get the hang of photos we will put some on the web site. Will add to todays entry later. Have a...

Nov 29, 2005 - Roma Day Two

Hi All. Well we went out and really toured the city today. Anyway was doing well until it decided to pour with rain and dampened our adventurous spirit. Visited the Colloseum (took the train and wasnt that an experience!)then onto the Basillica and St Peters Square then to the Trevi Fountain. All in all quite a busy day and not it is time to relax before leaving on the train for Naples tomorrow morning. Mick has been a great host.

Nov 28, 2005 - M: Life is still "dolce" in Rome

Life is still sweet in Rome, even if you're not Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni (the stars of "La Dolce Vita"). I didn't go in Fontana de Trevi after Jenna, but we did throw in a coin over our shoulder so we'll come back one day. And we topped that with the best gelato Rome has to offer (ginger-cinammon, pistachio, wild berries). Rome is bustling with energy but one can still find quiet and solitude. We arrived at the Foro Romano at sunset, as the two thousand year old white stone columns turned orange and then pink. The only sad...

Nov 28, 2005 - Rome

Well Rome was the last of my great adventures here in Europe. What a way to end it. Unfortunately my pictures did not turn out that well (I am waiting to get KK's as well), so if you want to see really great pictures of Rome, just take a look at Momma and Marky's from last summer. I just took some so that I could prove I was actually there! I traveled again with my "soul-sista" KK. We flew AlItalia, leaving on Thursday evening. We had a lay over in Milan. You know you are in Italy when you are coming up to escalators in the airport and the...

Nov 24, 2005 - Rome, Italy

Rome is a huge city. When we first arrived, I was concerned that we were never going to be able to see enough of it over 2 days to leave us feeling like we saw anything at all. After almost 2 full days, I've decided that Rome has some of the most amazing sight-seeing of anywhere we've been, but that I'd never want to live here. Our first evening in Rome was Thanksgiving. We called our families from the hotel, and it was really refreshing to hear their voices. It made me a little homesick, which is weird, because I've seen my family more...

Nov 17, 2005 - Departure

Welcome to the travel site. It's well after midnight on Thursday morning as I write. Was hoping to get a little sleep before departing, but it doesn't look likely now. Just finished a paper for my History and Philosophy class. It's not good, but is done. I am very ready for a trip and thank God for the opportunity. Today, I leave from B'ham and will fly to Rome. My friend, Becky, is flying from New Orleans and we will meet my parents at DFW. From there, we fly to New York, Madrid, and will finally arrive in Roma sometime on the 18th. I...

Nov 14, 2005 - When in Rome...

The train from Venice left just after midnight. Luckily for me I spent the 3euro and booked a seat on the train because it was packed. The compartment I was in was full and I had no leg room, but a few people didn't have seats and laid down in the aisle. And that was in First Class. I had a terrible sleep and can feel myself getting sicker. We got to the terminal at about 7am and I had to take a subway to the main terminal before I called Stephanie. It took me two tries to get on the subway because the thing was absolutely packed with...

Nov 10, 2005 - Rome

Rome, Italy... (Bill) Rome is a place where you have to stay at least a week just to take in a little of what is there.. The first place we stayed was not real nice...but we had to get a place over the internet as we were planning on having our passports sent to an address in Rome from Jason and Sarah.....we had shipped our passports back to San Francisco so we could get the visas we needed for the trip to Egypt and India.....they put us in room right next to the reception desk and the phone was either ringing all night or the fellow...

Oct 29, 2005 - Rome, Italy

This morning I slept long, until I woke up around 10am. Getting a shower I told Lauren (who had just woke up) Id meet her in a bit later and went out wandering. One a small side street just a block from our hostel was a little street market. I found myself a pair of sunglasses for 5 euros and some more shampoo to replenish my empty bottle. Mario, the guy who runs the hostel, told me the Tourist Info Kiosk would give me a free map of Rome. After buying a donut for breakfast, I found the kiosk and they gave me the map and told me how to get...

Oct 26, 2005 - Rome and the Beehive then Barcelona

The most notable thing about Rome is that we saw very little of it apart from a few blocks round the station. We arrived Sunday afternoon, booking in at our room (more in a minute on this...) then unpacked and settled in. Steve had a really bad cold so we decided to not be very adventurous. The next day his cold was worse, so we spent most of the day in, and I spend hours on the Internet trying to find a room in Barcelona to where we were travelling the next day. With no success, so it felt like a wasted day. However, all of this was...
