Jun 30, 2018 - Fiorano maranello

Marenello I really can’t believe the last two days !! It’s definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity!! Although !! I’d love to do it again and again !! From the moment we arrived it was amazing, the boys had driver briefing the we had pre dinner drinks then off for dinner at the famous Montana restaurant Fiorano Modenese, I couldn’t get my eyes off all of the famous paraphernalia, helmets, photos etc on every wall, and then there was the food, how do you eat pasta when you get home! It’s never going to be the same. Ok Day 1 The boys...

Europe Holiday 2018

Jun 21, 2016 - Moderna

Started the day with a light breakfast. Then packed up the cold pizza and pop for lunch. We headed down the highway to Modena and booked an appointment for balsamic vinegar tasting at acetate Malpighi. Down the road to the Duomo and several other piazzas, monuments et all. We had our pizza in the car while we sat regrouped. Then back down the road to the tasting. We arrived on time and we were requested to wait as there was another group to join us. So we waited for a ew minutes when we were then told that the other group was going to be a...

Jun 7, 2015 - Parma - Modena & Maranello

This morning we had a later start - 8.15 on the bus. We met our local guide Melanie who is English and she has the best sense of humour. She has lived in Italy with her husband for 25 years. She took us through a castle (we can't remember the name) and then through Parma to the magnificent cathedral. It was quite modest from the outside but inside it was one of the most ornate we have seen so far. We had some free time to explore the town square and then we drove to Modena for balsamic vinegar tasting. We tried some vinegar that was 100...

Nov 25, 2010 - I'll have two...

We headed north from Florence (new Ikea duvet tucked away in the back; we'd seen the weather forecast oh yes). We drove up through the Futa Pass, which is about half way between Florence and Bologna, and stayed the night at a site in the pass which was pretty good apart from the lack of hot water in the showers. Unbelievable at this time of year, and it was a shame as the toilets, showers, dishwashing, laundry etc were absolutely lovely. It's amazing the difference in the quality of the facilities between sites. It's also amazing how you...

Jun 14, 2008 - Rage Against the Machine

Willy was extremely happy when he found out Rage Against the Machine would be doing their only concert in Italy while we were here, especially since we missed them in Australia. The concert was in a place called Modena, 160kms from Florence and when we awoke that morning it was pouring rain. The concert was to be held outside, but we didn’t stress too much as it was 160kms away! Well it poured rain the whole drive to Modena! It stopped when we arrived and Willy said ‘don’t worry it won’t rain again today’ and it didn’t! It was the nicest...

Mar 7, 2005 - Parma

Driving through the mists of dawn we passed alfalfa fields and dairy farms to get to the small town of Colorno, near Parma. Donning plastic coats, shoe covers a paper hat (Would you like fries with that?) we entered a Parmesan Reggiano cheese cooperative. We spent almost two hours there, watching 5 or so men delicately stir curds and form the gargantuan blobs that would eventually become cheese wheels. The cheesemakers dedication to his craft is unsurpassable, working every day of the year (cow's don't take holiday) from dawn till dusk....

Jan 23, 2005 - Vroom Vroom .......

Once again we hit a destination and do a few laps trying to find our way - the GPS really does work but it can get a bit confused sometimes but together we work it out. I am driving around trying to get to the hotel and am told to make a left turn into a sea of people - I mean a sea of people - woops !. Is this a mall or something ? - turns out no but just what people do in Modena - walk around in the late arvo in the streets of the shopping district. I plough through and eventually find my hotel - then I have to find a park - same old...
