Jun 9, 2013 - Positano-Pompei June 9

Took the bus to Sorrento then a train to Pompei. Spent the day walking through the ruins. Why would someone sell a guide map with street names on it but not put any street signs in the palce. WHy? WHY? WHY? Oh wait I know why! It was hot and a long day. Back on the train to catch our bus. While going through Positano we met another bus coming toward us that was stopped. It was crammed full of people and could not take anymore. Some lady was yelling at the driver and he was yelling back. He then got out grabbed his smokes and went and sat in...

Jun 8, 2013 - Positano June 7

Went to the island of Capri (KAA-pree, not kaa-PREE) today. Took a boat from Positano and stopped at the white, green, and red grotto. Took an hour to get into the blue grotto, our captain lost our spot because the other guy yelled laouder and faster LOL. Paid 12.50 euros for about a 3 min almost pitch black ride. Was it worth it? Not sure but I'm here now, no I couldn't get Nancy to go in. Capri has about a million people visiting it, and it's not even the busy season. Cars, buses, trucks, cruise ships means lots of people makes my...

Italia 2013

Jun 6, 2013 - Positano June 6

Walked down to the beach this morning all 296 steps and went for my first Mediterranean swim. It was awesome and peaceful, tourists aren't here yet in great numbers. I guess that comes next month. Daniella (our host) drove us into town so we could buy some groceries (aka wine). Dropped us off and drove our stuff back and put it away. WOW!!! I asked Nancy are we still in the same country as Rome? LOL. Spent the day wandering through the village, walked back home and Rosa (our other host) made reservations at a local restaurant where you had...

Jun 5, 2013 - Positano June 5

Thank goodness we are done with Rome. That is THE VERY LAST time I will set foot in that city. Here I had bad memories from backpacking and I thought it was because I was a backpacker. Turns out it was because I was in Rome. Getting on the train to Sorrento a guy helped me lift my bag up and wanted to show us to our seats, for a tip. I gave him a euro and he mumbled something. He helped two older women and wouldn't leave until they gave him 5 Euros, what a bandit. Out to squeeze every last dime to the very end. Goodbye Roma. Hello Positano....

May 26, 2013 - Positano

We decided to just relax in Positano today since tomorrow we leave for Rome to fly out Tuesday. After breakfast and a short visit to the gym we enjoyed the views from our terrace with a glass of limoncello before making our way down to the main beach. From our hotel it's an enjoyable 10 minute walk through streets and alleyways filled with little shops selling all things Italian...limocello, table linens, perfumes, tshirts, ladies and men's clothing, jewelry, and leather shoes. As soon as we reached the beach area we came across a...

May 25, 2013 - Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello

Bryan and I had a great evening, both slept great then enjoyed our breakfast at Hotel Poseidon. You have to love a breakfast that has a Bloody Mary station and a Champagne station with fresh squeezed orange juice (for Mimosa's) set up. Afterwards we relaxed (aka napped) in our room then visited the fitness center for a great workout (finally a proper fitness center). For lunch we shared an appetizer sampler plate and salad while overlooking the sea at Cafe Positano. It was beautiful. Since we didn't have a car, we booked a private driver...

Oct 4, 2012 - Positano

We awoke to a beautiful sunrise over the ocean. Breakfast was once again on the balcony, a different one to last night and we ate breakfast as the sun rose higher in the sky and the heat started to rise. We wanted to visit Positano today which is 8 klms away on the road back to Sorrento. We were not lucky enough to be organised in time to catch the ferry that we wanted so we decided to go for a very quick swim. This was it my time to jump into 'the Med', bravery lacking I donned my togs and joined Mike to go to our motels private 'beach'...

Sep 12, 2012 - Positano & Amalfi

Another beautiful morning and I manage to capture sunrise from our balcony. No train today, down to the ferry port and off to Positano. We have found some different steps down to the port, still lots of them but more scenic! The coastline is stunning with great geological folds in the craggy cliff faces slipping sheer into the sea. Apparently the drive along the cliff road is an incredible ride! We enjoy seeing it all from the sea! Positano comes into view and it is beautiful. Buildings appear to be heaped up the cliff face in pyramid...

Jul 9, 2012 - Pompeii

Yesterday we went to Pompeii. We had to take the worlds crappiest train. It was an oven. When we got there of course mum couldn't resist getting a discount so we told the entry staff that we were from London to get children free! The whole site is over 70 hectares so it is impossible to see everything in one day,but we did see houses, amphitheaters, stadiums, shops, piazzas, statues and plaster casts of people. When archeologists discovered bones, insead of digging them out, the filled the spaces around them with plaster. You see, when...

Jul 7, 2012 - Reynolds tour of the Amalfi Coast

Yesterday we had an amazing breakfast of croissants, hot chocolate, yummy salami and a special cake that Lina the cook bakes everyday. We have met Giovanni, Marika and Lisa who work in reception. Giovanni asked us if we have a pet kangaroo. We spent the morning walking the back streets and lane ways of Sorrento. We saw some amazing sights and even a few lizards! Edward wanted to catch one and take it home. We had gelato for morning tea then had a rest. In the afternoon we hired a very fancy SClass Mercedes and drove the Amalfi  Coast. The...

May 28, 2012 - Rain Day

Hope you all enjoyed your hot holiday. It was a lazy day for us, as the rain kept us mostly indoors. We went into town to shop but soon got tired of the umbrella dodging & damp feet. I'd had my eye on a pretty Positano platter & shipped it home. The rain lifted in time for us to venture out to a nice dinner & retired to pack for our final destination of Capri. After breakfast, we'll be transported to the marina to catch a boat to the island for 3 days. The weather forecast looks promising, with sunshine & blue skies. I hope they're right....

May 25, 2012 - And now we are Five.

Too late to post much tonight, kids. Just got in from dinner, barely unpacked after the crazy drive from Rome. Tom & John arrived on separate flights & fetched us for the ride to the Rome train station. Oh, I did manage to squeeze in a morning walk to see the Trevi Fountain in Rome, along with a Farmacia for cold meds. I'm happy to report that I still have taste buds..... so far. Phew. After a 90 min. ride, we reached unremarkable Napoli skyline & found our driver & another mini-van. The ride to Positano was harrowing but beautiful once...
