Nov 15, 2012 - Napoli

Because we had already been to all the cruise sponsored sites offered from Naples, we decided to walk into the city to have pizza. Naples is where pizza was created and they are quite proud of their offerings. We walked along the waterfront a couple miles and stopped in at an interesting pizza parlor. We were not disappointed! I had a quattro fromagi pizza, and Mike had a margarita pizza. They were superb - best we ever had!!!

May 18, 2012 - Seeing the innards of Pompey in Napoli as well as lows and highs

This was our last ful day with the tour, and it ended with a Wow!. We visited the National Architectural Museum of Naples wwhere many of the items found in Pompei were transferred. The statues that they found were very well preserved and reflected lifelike qualities that were only duplicated again in the Renaissance. WE saw every day cooking and lighting implements, locks, valves, dice, and other pieces of everyday life that have parallels in most any American home. WE also were given a tour of the “Secret Room” where the pornographic...

May 17, 2012 - Coming into Napoli-last city on the tour

Today we leave Sorrento and go to Naples for our last two days. But before we go to our hotel we would make a stop at the National Museum of Capidomonte in Naples while our luggage continued on to our hotel. The first and second floors house the Galleria Nazionale (National Gallery), with paintings from the 13th to the 18th centuries including major works by Simone Martini, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, Masaccio, Lorenzo Lotto, Giovanni Bellini, Giorgio Vasari, El Greco, Jacob Philipp Hackert and many others. The museum is by far the best...

Oct 7, 2011 - Naples and Capri

Friday 7th October 2011 Weather:-Cloudy/Intermittent Heavy Down Pours Naples and Isle of Capri, Italy The early morning gave us a foreboding as we were scheduled to go to Capri after docking in Napoli today. We got up at 6am because we knew that with all the activity today our bags (for our departure of the ship tomorrow morning) had to be packed nice and early because the rest of the day and night were already accounted for. As soon as we looked out of the window we could see all the storm clouds that were threatening to put a damper on...

Jun 11, 2008 - Roma, Napoli & Capri

So in our last blog, we had just arrived in Rome. On Monday, we took a tour throughout Rome, and learned all about the amazing history of this ancient town. We saw all the sites you told us to see and more! Our claim to fame here, is that while we were at the Pantheon...literally walking in...unbeknownst (is that a word?) to us....Tom Hanks was on our left, filming Angels and Demons!!! Yes, true story. Ron Howard, the director, was also there...so when you see the movie, make sure to note that Big and Little were in the Pantheon, during...

May 14, 2008 - Napoli!

Meg at the keys here! Hi everyone! Flights went fine, no problems. Having a great time! We are now in Naples. Right now it is 2 pm our time (so that's 7 am your time). We just checked into our hostel and are on our way out to enjoy the city. Our stay in Rome last night was great, as was our delicious supper at the ristorante down the strada! This morning we hopped the train (with only minor confusion) from Rome to Napoli...it was a lovely 2 hours of scenic views and air conditioning! We seem to be doing well in the communication department....

Dec 27, 2007 - Napoli

We awoke in Naples to a bright sunny day. We had a small balcony that looked out over rooftops and down into narrow streets and alleys. The roof tops were covered with a multitude of TV antennas and fresh-washed laundry hung from the balconies of many of the apartments in adjoining buildings. Back on the street the next morning, it did not seem as foreboding. The storefronts were being opened, merchants were sweeping their steps and folks were rushing to work. Up the street at the first corner was a small plaza with a tall monolith statue....

Dec 11, 2007 - Napoli

My main purpose in coming to Naples was to visit Pompeii and Hurculeneum but I did get to see some of Naples too. The city has a bit of a reputation for it's seedy side and I can see why but it also has some very nice areas and buildings. I arrived after dark and my first taste of Naples was the metro line 3 which has to be the scruffiest, shabbiest metro line I've travelled on. To get to the hostel I had to change to line 1 which was a complete contrast, new and clean. However, the main street above wasn't somewhere I wanted to spend too...

Dec 4, 2007 - Naples and Pompeii

Well we arrived in Napoli two days ago and have since been and seen Pompeii, which was pretty cool with so much history. Didn"t realise how much the city was still intact , with the mosaic fllors and frescos on the walls. We would have gone to the top of mount Vesuvio's but it was to cloudy. When we first arrived we were greeted with a full on bitch fight in front of the train station, this was just after reading about the mafia and all the pickpockets and petty thefts in Napoli. We have spent today simply soaking up th atmosphere taking in...

Aug 25, 2007 - Vietri sul Mare to Napoli (Naples)

Today we leave Vietri sul Mare for Napoli......the hotel shuttle dropped us at the town bus stop where we caught the bus that goes to the train station in Salerno. We arrived at the station and figured out our train and waited and waited...an announcement finally came over the P.A. system advising that our train was "retardo" (late) and at this point it was already almost 45 minutes late. While we were waiting an older woman was talking out loud in Italian to herself and anyone else that would listen about the train and where it was going...
