May 4, 2013 - Isle of Capri

Arrived in Isle of Capri this afternoon! Had a long flight to Rome, then a train ride to Napoli, then a boat ride to Capri! What a beautiful place. Sitting on our terrace relaxing now and heading to dinner soon. We are very tired, virtually no sleep on the plane, but we will catch up in a few days! We only have one night here and will be in Rome tomorrow night.

Oct 2, 2012 - Capri

Waking up in Sorrento this morning we were hoping to open the curtains and see blue skys and blue seas. Unfortunately this didn't happened, we had overcast skys and we crossed our fingers and hoped that it would clear before leaving for our trip to Capri. Our motel was high on the side of hill so we had to walk down to the township to be picked up, not a problem but I was not looking forward to the walk uphill in the afternoon. We boarded our bus and headed down to the harbour in Sorrento. It's absolutely beautiful. Looking back to the...

Sep 25, 2012 - First Time to Italy: Rome, Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Pompeii!!!

Well I'm super frustrated because I just spent about 2 hours typing out this blog entry and it got deleted when I tried to add pictures... very sad. I might have to make it a little shorter now which is a bummer. Anywayyy last weekend was the Amalfi Coast of Italy! SO COOl! I dont think there is anywhere I will go in my lifetime that could be more beautiful! It was unreal, like a totally different world! The first day we got there we flew into Rome and had just enough time for a yummy first italian meal before meeting up with the tour bus...

Breakfast offerings were pizza, cakes, pastries and sweet tarts, along with the usual cereal, muesli, toast and hot drinks. Some of that will make for a good picnic lunch! There is another optional tour today, for EUR55 each we can take in the Isle of Capri. We decide to go it alone as the ferry trip to Capri...

Jul 26, 2012 - Greetings from southern Italy

Hello All. Hope this finds everyone well! Trying to find free internet hotspots was not as easy as we hoped it would be so today we’re at sea and paid for some internet minutes to update you all. Hope this works! July 21st It was sailing day! We zipped through the lines because we were considered VIP status (smell us!) and got on board way more quickly than we’d hoped. We explored the ship, took a short nap, and then we set sail. The ship is beautiful, immaculate (only one month old), and ginormous! An intimate 3,100 passengers…a third of...

Jul 10, 2012 - Italy - Capri

21st June 2012 Today we decided to take a cruise out to the isle of Capri. Our expectation was that on reaching Capri we would be left at the port to fend for ourselves. To our surprise the cruise included circling part of the island and trips into caves and passing through rock arches. The wow factor was back again! While on the cruise a tour guide offered his services to show us around the island. At a cost of course! He seemed very informed and we liked what he had to offer. Capri is very hilly and it was going to cost us €11 each just...

Jun 15, 2012 - Sorrento - Capri - Sorrento

oy what a long day today. Wake up call 6, breakfast 7, and on the bus by 8. Rode by bus to the area in Sorrento to catch the water taxi to the island of Capri. The road was very curvy and winded in and out around the mountain. The view was a beautiful and amazing site. We got on a huge boat that took us about ½ hour to get to the island. Got off the boat & we got on the Funicolare (train that took about 3 minutes to get up to the middle of the mountain on this island. Again more amazing sites. Went on an extra tour with our guide where she...

May 31, 2012 - Voted off the island

We had dinner reservations tonight at a terrific, star crossed ristorante named Aurora & will have to pack up to depart Capri on full tummies. My last morning on the island was a bountiful & fun shopping excursion, rather unexpected. I found another Italian scarf, some lemon soap, fresh tomatoes & apricots for our lunch & a lovely semi-precious stone necklace that was locally made. I stumbled into the shop of stone-crafted jewelry, my favorite stuff. There are so many narrow avenues to walk & I discovered a quaint neighborhood with a fresh...

May 30, 2012 - A High Point & A Low Point

As promised, I started the day with a bit of trekking and a little bus ride and finished the afternoon with a boat trip around this captivating 4 mile long island with the troupe and a quiet Captain Pepe. The high point was visiting the Villa San Michele & gardens of Dr. Axel Munthe. I'm reading his book (The Story of San Michele) that has been translated into 40 languages & reached best selling status in each country it was published. As a physician, psychiatrist, philanthropist, musician, designer, birder, animal rights activist & writer,...

May 29, 2012 - No Gilligan Here

Our group was too far South to feel the next tragic quake. Very sad. The morning of our sea crossing was a beautiful one. After several transfers by cars or walking with bags over cobblestones, we arrived at our hotel in the cutest convertible, 6 seater van with brightly colored seats. The 45 min. boat ride from the Positano wharf was brisk & lovely up top. Especially fun was the steam plume we witnessed from Mount Vesuvious. Was this a send-off from the slightly active culprit of Pompeii & Herculaneum? They have quite a system here for the...

May 16, 2012 - Seeing the Isle of Capri

We were scheduled to do on a private boat tour of the isle of Capri and the Blue Grotto, but Tommaso told us at breakfast that the tour was cancelled because the weather was too bad. The seas were too high for the little boat to take us, and the Blue Grotto was closed anyway. But we had a plan B. While the private boat was cancelled, the public ferry to Capri still operated, so Tommaso led us to the ferry to go to Capri. I took my bathing suit thinking that this would be the time that I finally went swimming in Italy, but it was not to be....

May 4, 2012 - Isle of Capri!

Another wonderful breakfast!!!!OMG! I guess, since it is included with our great room rate, it is even more exciting when you know,..... it is a very expensive spread and you want to indulge/ enjoy every moment! We walked down to the marina and purchased our tickets..." Jet leaves in 15 minutes!!!" perfect timing!.....as we left the harbor, Molly had tears in her eyes.....I guess a plethora of feelings, emotions, and pure joy...as this has been on her bucket list for a while! She ordered a prosecco and we enjoyed the cruise over! We landed,...
