Wednesday June 29, 2011 A final day with friends - L'hitraot! We are now on the final stretch – our last full day in Israel during this visit. We have discussed many, many ideas about returning, ranging from out & out aliyah to an apartment in Tel Aviv to simply returning on a regular basis. We have, and have made, many friends here and so the most intesting part of the ‘transition’ for me is the notion that our visits to Israel are becoming as much about visits to see good friends as they are about ‘learning’ the history and touring the...

This afternoon we visited the excavated ancient city of Zippori. This was a community in which Jewish people and the Romans lived together peacefully, which is very unusual because throughout most of old history they were fighting each other (the Romans didn't like Jewish people because they were different, so they would try to conquer Jewish cities or burn them down or sell Jewish people into slavery).
