@@@@@@@ Overlooking the harbour of wee Baltimore is the ruined 15th century castle once the stronghold of the O’Driscoll clan. Baltimore’s most famous incident occurred in 1631 when Algerian pirates carried off 100 citizens as slaves. There doesn’t seem to be any such threat anymore because the port has become a very popular yachting harbour. Overlooking the port is an unusual beacon, important to boats entering the bay. Sep 12, 2008 - Stone Circle and Weddings
After breakfast we went round the Bandon River Estuary to the Yacht Club and from there walked up the hill to James Fort where we explored the ruins and admired the views. This fort is situated across the estuary from our cottage. We returned to Kinsale and waited for the harbour cruise boat. We enjoyed seeing the surroundings from a different viewpoint. We almost despaired of getting this cruise as the weather had precluded us from taking it earlier in the week and today was our last opportunity. Today was also the best weather day we have...
