Friday, April 29 Persepolis Today was devoted to exploring the ruins of Persepolis,about an hour's drive out of Shiraz. Seemed to take about 30 minutes just to get out of the city. Its population is about 2.5 people so there's a lot of traffic. Although the roads/streets are in good shape and multi-laned, cross-traffic is handled rather strangely. Stop lights are spaced quite far apart, so, if you want to be somewhere to your left while on a major street, you have to drive to a roundabout so that you can make a turn back the way you came!...

Sep 27, 2008 - Day Trip to Persepolis

This morning we drove an hour northeast of Shiraz to the ruins of the Archaemenid ruins of Persepolis. The city was built in the 5th C. BC. It was covered by dust and sand for centuries before being rediscovered in the 1930’s. I was amazed by the paucity of tourists at this vast and significant archeological site. The massive visitor’s parking lot contained only two buses and a handful of cars. There were probably never more than 40 people at the site anytime during our 2 hour visit. May 5, 2006 - Shiraz

Pero que bello es este pais! Shiraz es otra de sus maravillas. El bazar mas bonito que he visto hasta ahora, hasta un caravanserai y todo tiene dentro. Ayer paseandome por el bazar arriba y abajo (que se esta bien fresquito a la sombra del bazar con la que cae fuera) me he tropezado con una madraza. Yo pa'dentro. Me sale el guardiano del recinto y no se que me dice pero, como me ve tan prudente y respetuosa con las costumbres de los otros, me deja pasar.
