Apr 28, 2013 - Indonesia - 28/4-27/5
7/5/13 - Firstly, Indonesia blew me away from the word go. Arriving in Yogyakarta (pronounced Jogjakarta)it really did feel so different from all the other places I'd been to. Everyone was really friendly & the whole feel of the city was fab. As I hadn't been to this country before I wanted to throw myself in & so made my way to The Dieng Plateau a couple of days later by public transport to get a feel for the place. 130miles(not far) & 7hrs later(!) the charm had faded a little & I arrived up this mountain, surrounded by cloud & drizzle,...

Oct 19, 2012 - Besakih, Bromo, and Borobudur
UBUD One note to add: the night before our minor accident we enjoyed a Balinese massage for a whopping $5 CAD. It was amazing! Since our whirlwind adventure, so to say, riding motorbikes around Ubud the remainder of our time was dedicated to relaxing with a good book and/or crossword to let our bodies heal up. We did a lot of exploring around the main strip, Monkey Forest Road, trying out several of the local restaurants. We even became regulars at a little 'warung' (restaurant) down a side street that was to die for. The cashew ginger...

Mar 6, 2012 - Yogykarta after Boo-Boo
Hi all, We made it! And are back feeling good and looking forward to exploring and enjoying Indonesia. We checked into a Losmen, like a guesthouse. It's a dump but hey, we are in a good town and feeling sane. I din;t think it possible to miss tuk tuk's and rickshaws but I feel we are back on track. I love the local scam here "come to art gallery last day of exhibition" It's great when you see them with the same patter the next day "hey you where you go?" me: "an art gallery I must hurry it;s the last day!" they don't follow up after that...

Jan 14, 2012 - Indonesia summary
Indonesia post Hello friends and family! Well sorry for the long delay, but we've been having far too much fun to spend an hour sitting at a computer, which I'm sure you'll agree is a good thing. Soooo we arrived in Jakarta (Java) at the beginning of December. After the dirt and extreme poverty of Kathmandu this city with it's skyrises, sidewalks, paved roads, stop lights, and amazingly effective bus system left us in awe. We kept saying things like "wait, what? Holy crap Thomas there are LINES on this road, like for lanes!" or "Wow, I just...

Dec 6, 2011 - Insatiable Indonesia
Okay friends, it's been a little while since our last post, but we have finally arrived in Indonesia!, and it is perfect!!! wow, so much has happened, we really are slacking on this whole blog thing... we left off with finishing trekking in the Annapurna range, in Pokhara. So we hung out for a while in Pokhara, got nice and fat on endless cheap food, plenty of ice cream, and a little beer. We then took a short little trip to two sizeable lakes outside of town called Bengas Tal and Rupa Tal (tal means lake). We heard they were amazing,...

Nov 28, 2011 - Java - Day 18 - Last day in Java
This was mostly a day of relaxation. We walked to Visitor Information to enquire about the bus, made our way to the bus ticket booth, and then to different booth to finally book two luxury bus ride tickets (16 hour drive). We spent some time at the Mall, where Jason bought some sandals & snorkel with mask, McDonalds for supper (fried chicken and spaghetti) and back to hotel to pack up and update the blog.

Nov 8, 2011 - Sate Ayam, Chicken Feet and Nasi Goreng
Beautiful Bali was hard to leave, and I still am craving to go back, but after Kuta and Ubud it was time for me to start heading east towards Java. I knew over the next day would mean a lot of travelling, and it had to start in Denpasar, so I hopped on a minibus to take me there. Getting off at transportation hubs is always so chaotic, especially being a tourist, all the taxi drivers, bus company reps, and rickshaw drivers flock to you to see where you're going and if you need any kind of transport. Hopping off the minibus I was immediately...
