Sep 7, 2009 - Muck Diving at Lembeh - Day 3

We are back in Manado, having returned here from Lembeh late this afternoon. It is evening here, and we are kicking back in the air-conditioned comfort of our room at the Hotel Travello. The Hotel Travello is Manado’s answer to the schi-schi hotel, sort of the Indonesian rendition of the “W“ hotel chain. There is WiFi in the lobby and internet access in each room, and each room contains a flat-screened television with a panoply of cable channels and modernist black furniture. At the Travello’s streetside bar out front, a local lounge...

One of these days... We did 2 one hour...

Sep 4, 2009 - Wildlife Watching in Tangkoko Nature Reserve

The sun is setting imminently as I write today’s entry. I’m sitting in the outdoor restaurant and common area at the Nad Lembeh Dive Resort on the island of Lembeh. Lembeh lies a short distance across the Lembeh Strait from the port city of Bitung in North Sulawesi. We arrived here a couple of hours ago from Tangkoko Nature Preserve, and will spend the next couple of days diving some of the spots in the vicinity. Our morning got off to an early start today when our guide at the Tangkoko Nature Preserve, Deon, banged on our room door at...
