Hundy Tour 2016-2017

Jun 14, 2014 - A Dance With Dragons

The boat trip didn't begin very promisingly, but it turned out it be a great adventure. The website for Kencana Tours promises a maximum of 20 people on the trip, but there were close to 50 milling around the office on the day of departure. Not to worry, I thought, as I'd read that they divide large groups up and use two vessels. After waiting around for an hour and a half we finally set off for a 3 hour cramped bus ride across the island of Lombok to the port on the eastern side. We were not even given a mediocre packed lunch until around...

Oct 17, 2012 - Labuan Bajo***continue photo upload here

10/17 Wiki Labuan Bajo Return from Seraya Island, very low tide so we wade out to deeper water where their small boat can take us to the bigger boat back. Met and chatted with a couple of young Berlin surgeons (Frieder and Sonja) on vacation, on our way back to Labuan Bajo. Once back we have to wait several hours for our room at Gardena to be ready since the one we had 'reserved' had been taken, I guess reservations don't mean much. While we wait we have a good chance to chat with other tourists who are waiting to go to Seraya...more Dutch,...

Oct 15, 2012 - Labuan Bajo

Hotel Rima staff arranged our van for return to Labuan Bajo after breakfast of pancake and tea. Last night we spent quite a lot of time on their internet which was easily the best connection and machines yet in Indo. Gunung Mas showed up once again (we found out later they are the only game as far as this type of service - explains alot), we end up seated in the very back seats even though one of the middle seats is unoccupied! "No, NO" the driver insists and points to the back. All the locals are in the front 2 rows - tourist are 2nd class...

Apr 15, 2010 - Komodo Island boat tour

From the Gili Islands I went on a 4 day boat trip east to see some of the many islands that make up the archipelago of Indonesia. There were 15 of us on a boat that probably should have been retired from the waters long ago so the conditions weren't great. The toilet was a hole in the back of the boat, there were no wash facilities and the mattresses were paper thin and there was just enough floor space for them all so it was very cosy. But apart from this it was actually a really good experience. We stopped regularly to snorkel in the...

Jan 20, 2010 - Komodo Dragons, Flores

“Can you repeat that, I can’t hear you”, I am calling Merpati airlines from the bus to Makassar to make a reservation and the booking girl is difficult to understand over the noise of the bus: “For tomorrow 19th of January I have reserved for you a flight leaving Denpasar, Bali at 13:00 and arriving in Maumere, Flores at 15:15. Price is RP621.800 that you have to pay before 11 a.m. at the airport”. My flight from Makassar should arrive at 10:15, so I should be able to make that. “Before 11 a.m., OK, thank you”. I had finally figured out...

Dec 6, 2009 - West of flores

At 6.30am we took the local bus to labuanbajo. It was a long journey ( 10 hrs ride) but it was almost comfortable as for one time the bus was not full and we had enough space to be at ease. We arrived late in the afternoon to Labuanbajo and we found an hotel which was expensive ( 15$ for the double bungalow…) we wanted to go to Seraya islands the 2 following days if we could find a boat trip to Lombok for after. We went to the travel agencies around and everyone told us that the only boat was on the following morning for a 4days 3nights...

Aug 27, 2008 - Labuanbajo, Flores

Tara made full use of the 8 hour ferry trip to Flores, and slept and read most of the way - Da got chatting to John, who'd cycled there from England! We arrived at Labuanbajo in Flores, and stayed for 5 nights. It's a fishing village turned tourist town because of the Komodo National Park, and we enjoyed our time here. After a day of arranging our flight back to Bali and deciding how to visit the Komodo dragons (that easily took a day - nothing in Indonesia can be done quickly!), Tara spent 3 days diving (Da snorkled this time 'cos the...
