Feb 28, 2015 - Paradise at Via Vicare on Gili Gede, Lombok, Indonesia

We were easily able to arrange transport from Ubud via the slow ferry to Lombok, the next major island east. Wanting to "get away from it all," Fran found Via Vicare on Gili Gede on the internet and they arranged pick up from the ferry (in Lembar). We immediately migrated towards the philosophy of "doing nothing." Between fantastic snorkeling right off the shore, daily yoga practice, and chatting with the other interesting guests, we did a surprising amount of something every day and loved every minute of it.

Oka Homestay 10/8 To Mataram Traffic here in Bali is way over-the-top! If they don't solve the transport situation soon other than private vehicles it's going to kill the golden goose. But then we've been lots of places where the same can be said...!, including the US! The slooow ferry tickets we purchased through Beach Bungalow included the transfer bus to Mataram ferry terminal. Billed as 'Bali before Bali became Bali', Lombok is a quiet, far less touristed island just east of Bali. Before the 2002 bombing in Kuta, Bali Lombok was starting to grow into its own as tourist destination and several beautiful resorts popped up around the island. The town of Senggigi, on the west coast designated itself as the hub of the tourist activity and restaurants serving western food, dive shops, and tour companies dotted the main street of town.
