Apr 20, 2017 - A little wander

Hello All, I hope you have enjoyed the last few journals, they were pretty long ones. Yesterday we had a little wander around Bali. Of course we would need weeks to actually see everything but we did spend a day driving around. We payed 700,000IDR for the driver and he took us around. We've seen 3 temples, one of them is on a lake and the last one, Tanah Lot is actually in the ocean. There was a Hindu temple festival as well So we saw like thousands of people. The highlight of the day was the giant rice paddies which is part of the...

Oct 24, 2012 - Day Trip to Gili Meno

Wiki Info Gili Meno Snorkeling we saw 3 green turtles, a spotted ray, and lots of schooling fish but not a good reef in front of the boat landing. Hiked around the entire island...it is less developed but a couple big places on the windward side of the island have been just abandoned. A couple local fellows said they went bankrupt in 2004 and no one has maintained anything so nature is taking it's toll. The 'lake' in the middle where they're attempting a bird sanctuary is shrinking due to the dry season...wet season comes in Nov.-Jan. No...

If Gili T was the lively island then Gili Meno was the the Robinson Crusoe-Chill-out island. 20mins on the boat and 10 to find accommodation found us exploring a new island all before 10.30am. Being smaller (Meno not me!), the challenge of walking round the island was not a great challenge. In fact no challenge at all seeing as, in my opinion, this was the most beautiful beach walk we've been on. (Pics soon I promise, more camera problems. I'm in McDonalds waiting for our flight to NZ). The...

May 7, 2010 - Gili Meno

Next up life on a very quiet tropical island - most people's idea of heaven, but in actual fact the reality is that without a good book then paradise quickly becomes dull. I was fortunate with my choice of resort, the excellent Sunset Gecko was managed by a Japanese guy who had everything predictably well organised - the food was excellent and the other guests were good company. When the weather cooperated and the sea was clear there was some excellent snorkelling on our doorstep albeit with a deceptively fast current. I did manage to...

Dec 12, 2009 - Gili paradise

We woke up early which was not a big deal as I almost slept the entire night in the garden because of the hot inside the room ( No power : no fan… ) I’ve been bite by many mosquitos… Jon woke up in the night because of the crazy mosque singer and looked for me as I wasn’t in the bed! At 7.30 we were to the pier for the boat to Meno. It left around 8.30 We arrived to Meno and we walked not far than 30 min to the hotel that we saw in our LP. On the way we met a jewels sailer who was really friendly and we spoke a while with him. It was...
