Jul 7, 2017 - Livin' the island life again

Ok, finally got all the Ubud photos uploaded so go check those out again guys if you haven't seen them! After Ubud, we made a rather interesting journey out to Gili Air, a tiny island off of Lombak, Indonesia. The views ALMOST rivaled St.John. ;) We stayed in an adorable little beach bungalow at Mowie's on the beach. Ran around the island, biked around the island, swam, and just soaked in the view for a few days. It was paradise for sure.

Nov 1, 2016 - Last day on Gili Air

Tim walked up to sort boat / horse etc out & retuned with my 2 skirts! Love it! Gave the lady 100,000 Rupeah (£6.14). Barg! Lovely time snorkelling with the turtles again, Tim took a video of me with them which is pretty good! Walked up and round island to watch sunset, sat on bean bags listening to two different songs (2 bars). Bought 3 bracelets from a young man who said he made them (just over £5 for the 3) Sunset was rubbish tonight but we are very chilled. Walked back round to Han's Bar. Have Merlin fish again, a bit tough this...

Oct 31, 2016 - Lovely Gili Air

Woke early. Germans talking English to their small children next door. -the walls are only bamboo and wood. Walked up road to get sun-screen; saw a lady lying down outside a shop with a sewing machine in it. Eventually, (I think/hope she understood) I left my Bali Batik skirt and Kuching fabric saying same same. She said it would be ready by 6pm tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Lovely chilled day on the beach again. Asked barman where we could get sun-screen and a couple from Slovenia gave us a bottle so had a couple of drinks with them.

Oct 29, 2016 - Tim spotted some Turtles! WOW!

Up early again. Chickens clucking all night. There are lots of chickens here! Pancake for breakfast again. Wow wow wow! Tim spotted a turtle which was approx 1 metre in length! AMAZING. We both expected them to be UK tortoise size. Grey and brown with pink and yellow. Later he spotted another but not quite as big. Love it here as so relaxing and about £25 a night so booked up to stay another 2 nights. Annoying boy waiter at bar played a couple of AC DC tracks for us which cleared the place. He then sat with us playing guitar & practising...

Nov 19, 2013 - Pure Chance

DISCLAIMER if you are interested in reading "secret daughter" by Shilipi Somaya Gowda do not read this post as there are plot spoilers!! In addition to many life changing oppurtunities, this trip has given me a chance to really catch up on my reading list. While I was sick this week I started reading (and finished in 36 hours) Secret Daughter, a recommendation I got from my sister a while ago but never got around to. I'm so happy that I read it here in southeast Asia! The book chronicles a baby girl, Asha, in India given up to an...

Oct 21, 2012 - Gili Air

10/21 Hotel Central provide a very nice fried egg, toast, jam, butter, & tea breakfast after which we walked out to the road and the fellow from the previous night at a tour agency hailed us. He quoted us 100,000 r. for the taxi trip to the boat and ferry to Gili Air. Since it was leaving promptly (8:15) we made a quick ATM stop (luckily, since later we found there are none in Gili that worked) then headed out. By 10:30 we were on the ferry loaded with locals, produce, mechandize, and tourists. Wiki Info Gili Air A bit choppy but no one...

Mar 31, 2012 - Air we go, Air we go!

Hi, After disembarking onto our third Gili island we were in the mind set that securing every accommodation on the Gili's was going to be a laid back pleasure. Having rejected one hotel tout for being 50R too expensive we settled for a sunset bungalow on the north side of island. Getting there was a bit of a hike through a huge paddy field dodging a few bulls with the largest population of flies stuck to their hair, eyes and dangly bits I had ever seen, the tout succumbed to picking up Petrina's ruck-sack from the floor and carried it a...
