Feb 20, 2017 - Bali, Bali, Bali

Yesterday, Monday, February 20 we arrived in Bali, Indonesia and took a ferry with 8-200 HP motorboat engines on the back to meet bus #29 for our island tour. Off we went one what would be a single lane highway in the US but 2 lane in Bali. All the vehicles are miniature. Tiny dump trucks, Petral haulers, and even the bus we're on but the amount of small motorcycles is astronomical. They drive around the bus on both sides, line up 8 wide at stop lights. We saw them with a family of four on board, cages of eggs on the back, even with chairs...

Feb 18, 2017 - At sea with me.....

I am happy to report in the men vs women trivia the women finally won one and the score is now 105 to 210. If we win today we can tie it up. Tonight is a mystery dinner theater production we have signed up for in a speciality dining room. There is a hypnotist on board for the evening show. I won a t-shirt at bingo that almost reaches my knees. I am remodeling it with tied fringe and a v-neck. Tomorrow is the trip into Bali ,Indonesia. We are on a 9 hrs tour to see ancient ruins and take a visit to the Batik fabric factory.

Apr 21, 2013 - Hello from Clumsy - Kadence's traveling teddy

Hello Kadence and Classmates, This is Clumsy reporting in. I have been on another wonderful trip since I last wrote to you. My travel mates and I took a five hour flight from Hong Kong to Bali, Indonesia. Indonesia is an archipelago comprising approximately 17,500 islands. An archipelago is a chain or cluster of islands. Five countries which are mainly archipelagos are Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The largest archipelagic state in the world, by area and population, is Indonesia. Indonesia is the...

Project Travel Mate

Oct 5, 2012 - Bilikpapan to Surabaya via Lion Air

Today, at the airport checking in the desk guy did the same drill, "Do you have onward flight? Where are you going?" Etc. It's almost on the verge of an interrogation, no smiles and insistent! I remain silent, of course, since these things get to me easily. For some reason, I think it is none of their business but I know if I react negatively it will only provoke them more as has happened in the past. "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose" JJ Again, amazing that smoking is permitted on buses. This country is full of...

Oct 3, 2012 - Samarinda

Hotel Gading Kencana 10/3 Good sleeping...even with shared bath (clean), and luckily the room had a small window, Bon's preference - becoming a requirement! We saw no good places to eat last night for breakfast - only the KFC - so we headed to the airport. The check in desk guy did the same drill as immigration "Do you have onward flight? Where are you going?". etc. It's almost on the verge of interrogation, no smiles and very insistent! I remain silent, of course, since these things get to me easily since I can't seem to step out of my...

Mar 3, 2012 - Balikpapan and Samarinda NIGHTMARE!!!!

Hi all, It was all going so well. A cheap flight came our way at 5am to Balikpapan on the east coast of Borneo. We jumped on board with minutes to spare and headed to the jungle. On arrival we saw that we had shared a flight with an Indonesian boy band called Hitz. Lots of screaming girls had their photos took with them so it only made sense that two more joined them, see the pics. Their tour manager seemed keen for us to pose with the band and took more pics than the local DJ did with our camera. All eyes on Hitz website for a couple of...

Asian Adventure 2011

Jul 30, 2010 - In Indonesia

Due to some stupid round the world ticket nonsense we were unable to fly from Perth to Bali we had to go to Singapore, so we then doubled back on ourselves and flew into Java. Yogyakarta is a fairly chaotic place, busy and noisy and definitely an Asian city in the way that Singapore only half is. Our main reason for going here was to see Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist stupa. We got a very early bus at about 430 in the morning to get there for sunrise. It’s a cool place, surrounded by volcanoes and jagged limestone cliffs. It’s the...

Operation Badger

Nov 1, 2004 - Sipadan

Sipadan is rated as one of the best dive sites in the world. The following quotes are used in the marketing material: WWF: "No other spot on the face of our planet has more marine life than Sipdan Island" Jacques Cousteau (1998): "I have seen other placs like Sipadan - 45 years ago but now, no more, now we have found again an untouched piece of art." It is a tiny island south of the state of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo. It took about 30 minutes to walk around the island. It is little more that a sand bank, covered with trees and accomodating...
