Today we are at Port in Belawan, Indonesia, sister port to Tacoma Washington. Belawan is a port town that is quite impoverished. We are taking a coach tour into Medan an hour ride away - not that it's far, just that the traffic adds to the time of getting there. Medan is a fast growing city and capital of the province of North Sumatra, it throbs with commerce and the inevitable inferno of traffic. It is the fourth largest city in Sumatra with a population of 2.1 million. The money is funny (Rupiah) with 9,000 rupiah to one US dollar. The...

Today we are at sea all day on our way to Belawan, Indonesia - sister port to Tacoma, Washington for all you Washingtonians . . . My day will consist of writing on this travelogue and sorting through the photos. There is an interesting lecture on what to expect while at our two ports in Indonesia.
