Sep 27, 2013 - Cara Menghilangkan Jerawat

Feb 18, 2012 - Jakarta or not!

Hi everyone this is the first chance I have had of accessing a computor. I was literally too lazy to unpack it in Jakarta as it meant trying to repack the bags for Yogjakarta/Padang/Sijunjung!!!!! Figured it was easier to leave things as they were. I hope you all got my text with my new phone number, apparently it is cheaper to operate an Indonesian phone/number here. It took a bit longer for mine to be fully operating properly for some reason. Anyway it is about $5 for 2 months prepaid phone card and $10 for one month of data (Internet...

Jun 14, 2011 - Bad Backpackers

Jakarta, March 15 - 18 This was my first time having to go through a metal detector to get into a hotel. Then again, it was my first time staying at a hotel that had previously been the target of a terrorist attack - in 2009 suicide bombers attacked both the JW Marriott (where we were staying) and the adjacent Ritz-Carlton. Now, you're probably thinking, ‘how on earth could they afford to stay at a JW Marriott on a $40.00 a day budget?!?‘ A few months before our trip I opened a Marriott Rewards Visa, and immediately received two bonus...

Jun 13, 2011 - A Shaky Start to Indonesia

Jakarta, March 15 -18 Our arrival in Indonesia was slightly traumatizing. In hindsight it was a comedy of errors, but at the time there was definitely nothing comedic about it! We got in line at immigration, where the first step is to pay for your entrance visa - US$25.00, or the equivalent in Indonesian rupiah. Problem #1 - Seeing as we had just arrived from Singapore, we had neither dollars nor rupiah. So we asked for an ATM, and learned that the only ones in the arrivals hall are on the other side of immigration. Now really, where’s the...

Feb 8, 2011 - Java to Bali

Out of the first world and into the third. We arrived into Jakarta ready for our two hour stint in waiting for Alfie and Pete to arrive. On walking out into the airport foyer the taxi drivers were fighting for our business. We moved away quite quickly and sat playing cards on the bench. Locals were hovering over us watching our game and it felt a little uncomfortable being stared at again. I asked at the tourist information about the volcano in Bromo and I was advised it is still active and erupting so there is no chance of us going there....

Jun 30, 2010 - Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, a short stay in a really cool Asian city. We arrived in KL at 9am then hopped a bus to the central train terminal then onto light rail to Chinatown. It was early afternoon by the time we got settled in a crap box of a place. But since we would only be sleeping for a few hours we toughed it out for one night. After securing our rooms and dropping our gear we jumped back on light rail and headed to Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) to check out the Petronas towers. This use to be the tallest towers in the world bus have since been...

Jun 27, 2010 - Mt. Bromo and Bali

As we work east to Bali, our next stop is to Cemoro Lawang to see the volcano at Mt. Bromo. The adventure started with a super early train ride to Surabaya that left Yogyakarta at 1:15 in the morning and arrived around 7:30am. Then a 3 hour bus ride to Promolinggo at which point the haggling with the local travel agent began. Always a fun experience, but after some work we negotiated a price for the journey up to Cemoro Lawang for sunrise on the volcanoes rim. The country side was very lush and green and as we climbed the temperature became...

Jun 26, 2010 - Borobudur

Today we looked like the Hells Angles with 9 of us on our motorcycles. Rather than take a minibus or arrange some other form of transportation we chose to ride the 42km to Borobudur. It was such a pleasant ride that early in the morning with light traffic and the air was cool. It was like sitting in front of an A/C unit and not drenched in sweat. Borobudur looms out a patchwork of green paddies and swaying palms. It has survived Gunung Merapi’s ash flows, terrorist bombs, the earthquake of 2006 and the throngs of tourists that patronize the...

Jun 26, 2010 - Yogyakarta Adventure

We have spent the last several days at Yogyakarta taking in the local sites and culture. On our first day here a visit to the Kraton was in order. The Kraton is essentially a walled city that contains 25,000 residents with its own markets, shops, schools etc. The current sultan still resides there and the palace contains some of the finest examples of Javanese architecture. Elders that reside there still wear the local dress comprised of a sarong, belt, long bladed knife, shirt and a hat that looks like a wrap of material Chad tried one on...
