3/9 THE ECLIPSE Beginning at 9:45 am local time...with half an hour approaching darkness and fabled diamond ring! It was just a block walk to the shoreline and our viewpoint. Where we hope to see an eclipse... 3/7 Very minimal breakfast at Hotel Yasimin, choices for Indonesians but our choice was cornflakes, no eggs, no toast, no rolls, etc. and tea w/ milk. After Bon called Tiff (l hour) we left ostensibly to go to the countryside and see butterflies after a short stop at Guruda where we actually could check in and get seat assignments for both our flights to Ternate. Feb 12, 2014 - Banda Neira, Indonesia

Sailing from Jayapura around the entire north coast of West Papua and through the Seram Sea, we covered 1000 nautical miles before reaching the tiny volcanic islands of Banda Neira. Brad, the naturalist, kept us amused and fascinated by his lectures on reef life, as he prepared us for snorkeling. We've learned about hard coral - boulder and plate types - and soft coral and the many symbiotic life forms they support.
