Apr 8, 2012 - Ubud- Talking to the gods

Today was a very interesting day. I'm still trying to process everything because certain things are so outside our realm of ordinary belief that it takes some time to think through what actually happened today. I'm usually a doubter of anyone that claims to have “powers” or “abilities” but today made me doubt my own doubts. I went with our taxi driver (Komang) to see his teacher. We drove through winding roads surrounded by beautiful greenery. We got to Mahday's house and sat cross legged on a green tarp waiting for her. On the walls there...

Apr 7, 2012 - Sick in Ubud

4.6.12 Didn't do much today because I'm trying to just relax and recuperate. This morning Jeannette went to see Komang's (our taxi driver from yesterday) healer teacher. I decided to hold off on going to meet his teacher until I felt less sick. I stayed in the room most of the day and just rested. In the afternoon I met Jeannette for a Yin Yoga class (very relaxing deep stretching yoga). 4.7.12 Just relaxed all day. Still not feeling good. Tried walking around the city for a little bit but got exhausted and light headed just after about 20...

Apr 5, 2012 - Taxi day- Jatiluwih fields and Lake Bratan

- I woke up feeling even worse than I did yesterday. My nose is running like crazy, I'm so congested, my throat still hurts a little, and I'm feeling just generally out if it. Didn't think it would be that bad though since we were going to spend most of the day sitting in the taxi driving places. - We got in the taxi and showed our driver the list of places we wanted to go and he said it couldn't be done. We were kind of upset and a little frustrated because all the places seemed like they were generally in the same direction but I guess we...

Apr 4, 2012 - Relaxing day in Ubud

Today was a really relaxing day. We really didn't do that much, but we both needed the day to just relax. I woke up not feeling so great, I'm really congested and feeling weak and tired. We ate breakfast and packed up all our stuff because we needed to check out of the hotel. We took a taxi down to a small street where there are many homestays. We walked into a couple but kept finding things wrong with them, the first had construction going on right outside the rooms so it would have been really noisy all day, the second only had a room...

Apr 3, 2012 - Yoga and Balinese dance

- Didn't have a very good night sleep. Woke up in the middle of the night because the bug bites on my legs were SO itchy that they actually hurt if I didn't scratch them. I jumped out of bed and got my Tiger Balm which eased the pain. - Woke up to the sound of roosters making the worst noises known to mankind. Not only were they cock-a-doodle-dooing every 20 seconds but one of the roosters sounded like it was being strangled at the same time. Even my earplugs were no match for the horrible sounds. - We had breakfast at the hotel and then...

Apr 2, 2012 - Sanur to Ubud

- Woke up and went to breakfast with Jeannette on our way to yoga - The yoga class was good, even though the room was so humid. The yoga teacher was a really interesting man (I think he was from Bali). He was very smiley and talked about taking in the beautiful day and using the beautiful energy from the beautiful surroundings. He directed all of our inhales and exhales but his counting was super slow so I felt like my lungs were going to burst at some points (especially in the twisting poses when I couldn't take in as much air). At one...

Mar 14, 2012 - Bali, Ubud

Hello all, We are in the beautiful town of Ubud on the glorious and fabled island of Bali. This is such a great place to chill out, an endless supply of cafe's, bars, boutique restaurants and art galleries and shops(I've read to many guide books). We really landed on our feet staying at a hotel/home-stay owned and run by this amazing woman Oka (Yoko Ono lookalike). She insisted we stayed and let us stay for 11 pounds a night as we said that was our budget, it was supposed to be 20+. B&B, swimming pool (I'll come to that later), and she...

Nov 22, 2011 - The best bottle of whiskey EVER....

So today I ate breakfast, and was headed out for another walk, when someone honks at me. This is nothing new, as folks have been honking at me during this whole trip. Weird. But this one puled over, rolled the window down, and loudly said "Hey Texas you gonna keep ignoring me or what?" Hahaha it was Bodi! The kid from the first night! Traffic was beginning to back u behind him so I got in the car with him, and as we drove off I told him I would be checking out of my room at noon and was out looking for another place for the night,...

Nov 21, 2011 - Ubud

Bodi was a no show....or at least I thought he was. Until I realized there was an hour time diff from Thailand to Indonesia. Whoopsie. That meant I was an hour late meeting him, my bad. Oh well!!! I was torn, what to do today? Go walk around and explore Ubud or chill by the pool that kept calling my name? We all know how this turned out. So by the pool I went. I feel kinda bad just hanging out at the pool when there is a whole unknown world out there just begging to be seen. But I argued in my head that um, this is MY vacation and if I...

Nov 20, 2011 - Bali

After the sleepless night in the airport, I finally make it in line to board the flight to Bali. In line, I just happened to stand behind yet another American. I know this because I'm an evesdropper, and couldn't help but notice when she showed her passport to a fellow passenger right in front of me.....and of places in America..... she's from Texas!!!! Random!! Said hi, we laughed, and even more surprising was when we boarded the plane....and she was seated next to me!!! Guess they figured they should keep the Texans together for this...

Nov 15, 2011 - Bali - Day 5 - Ear Candles for two please!

We enjoyed our resort in the morning and went into Ubud in the afternoon to send a box back to Canada (stuff we don’t need but want to keep) and to pick up our newly cleaned laundry. While we were in town we both decided to go to a local spa and have an ‘ear candle’ done. Not sure if anyone has had this done before but it was our first time in our lives, we didn’t know what to expect. They light one end of the candle and place the other end inside your ear canal. The candle was medium in length. As the candle burns down it draws whatever...

Nov 14, 2011 - Bali - Day 4 - Wild Monkey's & Kecak Fire Dance

Breakfast buffet again this morning accompanied by Balinese coffee. Wonderful day but extremely humid. Took the resort shuttle into town, had our driver Gusman drop us off at Monkey Forest Park. Walked up the street right away to a local dry cleaners and dropped off a load of clothes, nothing dries here fast enough if you wash it on your own because it is so humid. Total cost was $5,800 rupees. ($7 Canadian) We will pick it back up tomorrow afternoon. Walked back down to Monkey Forest. Monkey's are everywhere throughout this park. Just as...
