Feb 1, 2008 - Bali Bliss

I arrive in Bali just after midnight and make the one hour journey by road to Ubud. At the hotel, I'm shown to my hut/villa. As I said, some of the trip is luxury and well that's this part! My hut has three separate interconnected rooms. The door from the bedroom leads to an outside area where the bathtub is submerged in a pond with fish swimming in it and cute little frogs jumping around! It must be seen to be believed! There is another door that leads to the dressing area and wash facilities. The hut has a terrace with unobstructed views...

Jan 8, 2008 - Bumi Sehat Open Clinic, Ubud

Today was the last day treating in the Bumi Sehat Clinic. I was very happy to see Rini, the young village girl I have been treating with the arm and wrist contracture. She is doing very well, and the picture of her with me is one of my favorites because I finally got her to show me a really big smile!!!! We had arranged transport for a few of the villagers from Mount Abang to visit the clinic for follow-up care, including one man who suffers from lower back pain, urinary incontinence, and numbness in the muscles in the inner thigh after he...

It translates to "Healthy Earth Foundation" and is primarily a birthing clinic. The emphasis of the yayasan (non-profit organization) is "Gentle Births for a Peaceful Future", but it also facilitates community...

Our place had a nice pool so Cynthia had a morning swim while I ate breakfast. Today's goal is to make it to Ubud. This was quite a distance and didn't leave us with much sightseeing time. Since we have been spending a lot of time on the bike in the sun, both of us have gotten a little sunburnt. Cynthia decided that the sunblock was insufficient and therefore we must cover her face completely. OK. I covered her up with a scarf and then she put on my pants (hers were dirty). The sight of her wrapped like a mummy was so ridiculous that I had...
