Jan 14, 2010 - Lots to see around Lovina

Hired bikes for 20000 rupiahs (<2 euro) and took an early spin hoping to miss what we thought with the be the daily deluge... that actually never happened. After much searching we found the first waterfall but no guide to take us to the higher 'second' one. Sing Sing Waterall is 5km from the Lovina village. Then on to the warm sulphur springs near Banjur - another 5km. After the ride we could have done with cold poring springs. Nonetheless for 25 cent entry we were not complaining. Finally I went on to a Buddhist temple - Brahma Vihara...

Jan 13, 2010 - Lolling about in Lovina

Long lie-in after the 2 days solid of travelling. Took a quick look around the hotel 'grounds'. We're in a very simple bungalow for 150k rupiah = 12 euro a night. Place has a nice pool (very cold water..!) After seeing the dark sandy beach (not so nice) and the huge waves rolling in I can see why they put pools in these places for the tourists as swimming and sunbathing is virtually impossible and not for the fainthearted. Think we were virtually the only people in the place as it is LOW LOW season. Apparently it rains more in Jan than any...

Aug 3, 2009 - Sunrises and Sunsets

Only a few minutes until the internet cafe closes so I'll briefly summarize the past several days. After 3 glorious days in Bali... Day 4 Drive to Toya Bungkah, a small village nestled between Ganung (Mount) Batur and Danau (Lake) Batur. Day 5 Wake up 4am to climb Ganung Batur. I haven't seen that many stars in the sky in a long time. Get to the top just in time for breakfast (our eggs were cooked by volcanic steam rising from the earth) and the most glorious sunset I've ever witnessed. Take a long trek down the mountain/volcano via the...

Jul 3, 2009 - Im the one who wants to beee with you

Today was pretty laid back and relaxed. We made our way to Lovina.. which catches you back up to today. May do some snorkeling here, and hope to see a dolphin or two. Just relax a bit before I get on a boat over to Java for the mission project. I will try to write again before then, because I think once I get to the island I most likely will lose contact. I will keep up with the journal and post it ASAP when I get back to the main land. But, again, I will find a connection somewhere I'm sure before that, so you'll be hearing from me soon....

Jul 2, 2009 - Bump Set Spike It

Today started off with a bang as well. I went back to the pools to take a few more pictures and met a guide named Gusti. He was a riot. He used American-isms like, Its alll goood, and Ya man its Awe-some. and on and on. Cracked me up. He took me all around the pools and told me the history and showed me the rice fields around the area. Ken met up with us just in time as Gusti asked...do you have a bit of time? ..luckily I have all the time in the world. We then commenced on a trek..around the temple, through the rice fields, through the...

Jul 1, 2009 - Thats why fireflies flash

Now on the map it says Lovina - that's where I am now... paying for Internet, so I'm trying to summarize the last days adventures...but seriously...so much has happened :) It will be difficult. Trace your finger from Kuta, to the east side of Bali, then up the coast, then down to the lake in the eastern half, then back up and along the top of Bali until you reach Lovina...that's where Ive been the last two days.. and here's what I was doing :) So Finally after what I thought was a stand up, met up with Ken at the correct Starbucks and told...

Petit tour d'Asie!!!

Jul 13, 2008 - Hello maybe later

Necklace? Fruit? Dolphins? Transport? Sunglasses? Me? My child? 'No thank you' Maybe later? Well that's how you could summarize the people at Bali. But they're all very friendly and talkative. Bit too much at times... but we as they're only trying to survive by selling fruit you can't really be too angry. Anyway, so we're in Bali now. First stop Kuta (aka little Australia) We first arrived at Kuta beach after an hilarious flight from KL with people running for the plane all over the airstrip, getting on the wrong plane, just to get the seat...

Mar 17, 2008 - Brewing Mount Bromo and loving Lovina

Many of the photos relating to this text are on the previous entry!!! Monday 17 March - Mount Bromo So far on this trip I have seen many new things and experienced many new experiences. However sunrise of Mount Bromo must surely beat them all - and that really is saying something bearing in mind what I have seen and done! The images on the previous entry hopefully will give some indication of the beauty of the beast but you really do have to be there at sunrise to capture and feel the magic. Mount Bromo is a landscape that is evocative and...

Feb 18, 2007 - Bali- Lovina Beach

Lovina beach is one of those places that was totally killer before the bombings and now with the "new deal" there is pretty much shit all to do. Sad to say but the most exciting thing we found here was that our hotel guy made one hell of an omelet. Aside from good food, the beach itself is pretty nice with its black volcanic sand texture but when your the only one on it, it can seem a little... I don't know exactly what, but its boring. We went fishing in a traditional fishing boat which was cool... we didn't even have rods, just line on a...

Dec 8, 2006 - Lovina, Bali

Dutchie on the move

Oct 28, 2006 - Voyage eclair a Lovina
