Jan 14, 2012 - A journey to a new country

As always, Christmas and New Years came and went in the blink of an eye. The last few weeks were so much fun, and i feel incredibly fortunate that i got to spend the time with my family. Saying goodbye to my parents was hard for me, especially my mom because I know I will not be seeing her for quite some time now. It never ceases to amaze me how much more people appreciate things when they are gone. Up until a few minutes before my parents boarded their plane, the fact that they were leaving didnt really hit me. The few weeks that they were...

Dec 6, 2011 - Bali trip

Bali is a very interesting place and our guide has given us a fantastic insight into the culture and spiritual approach the Balinese have to life. We visited the rice fields high up in the mountains but did not have time to get to the volcano as the traffic is AWFUL around the port. It took us 1hr to get out.It is not as bad as Ho CHi Minh in some ways as there are not quite as many motorbikes but there are more cars and the roads although tarmaced (sort of) are single tracked at times! We visited a lovely village which is known for its...

Nov 26, 2011 - Bali to SIN

Check out at 3:30am. They have set out 'breakfast' for me and called a cab, tho there was a misunderstanding and it won't be here til 4am. Great driver, didn't talk much and drove like I do when I'm late. I like him already. Got to the airport in plenty of time since I didn't have any luggage to check. Paid my $20 usd to be able to leave the country and followed some other lost looking travelers who are on the same flight as I to Singapore. Flight to SIN was unremarkable except that there was some serious turbulance....the most I have...

Nov 25, 2011 - Leaving Gili

Today I leave paradise. So sad already, I really like it here in Gili. The heat of the sun wakes me up around 6am, but I manage to sleep till 8ish then get up and begin packing. My bags and I go to the front counter and order a pineapple pancake, and Mom is around to sit with me while I eat. I have come to love this lady. She arranges for me to stay in Kuta at a place that she has been staying at for 11 years now. She gives me the address and then hurries upstairs to go call them and book it for me, while I head to the harbour to catch the...

Jun 14, 2011 - Bali

Bali - 13th June onwards Our last country, we arrived on Monday evening about 6.30pm it had been a fairly uneventful trip from Batu Ferringi - we got the plane to Kuala Lumpur and then on to Bali. Our normal plan of attack when you arrive in Bali (and those that have been here will know) is you ned to rush of the plane, one persn to visa counter and other to immigraton line. So we rush of cursing that we are at the gate furtherest away from the terminal and have the visa money in hand and get to the arrival hall and its EMPTY, and I mean...
