Jul 24, 2017 - Ulun Danu Temple

For today, I booked a tour that would go to the North side of the island. I ended up paying significantly more but I got the car to myself and sort of was glad not to have to go with any tourists from China or something. I was surprised when the car arrived. I was expecting a small car and driver. What showed up was a large van, a driver, and a guide. Then, before we could get out of the Taxa Uma parking space, the salesmen who booked my trip showed up to check on his boys and make sure I was ok. They were boys. The driver was Puta and I'm...

Jul 19, 2017 - Bali Tanah Lot Temple

Back in Manila, I retrieved my luggage and texted Dave. He had planned to go with me to Bali. I wanted the company and wanted to do a little research on worship and discipleship on a Hindu Island in a Muslim nation. Dave would be of lots of help. But some thing had come up at his church that might make it impossible for him to come. I honestly had no idea whether he would show up to the airport or not. I shot him a Facebook message, but, when I didn't hear from him right away, I got checked in for the flight and headed to security. The...

Jun 18, 2017 - What a way to end our time in beautiful Indonesia

We ended our wonderful stay in Indonesia where it all began, in Kuta near the airport. The last three days have been the most chilled of our entire journey so far. Whilst we've been to more beautiful beaches like Railay, there's just something about Bali which makes it so much more chilled. On our final night we got to stay at the Hilton again thanks to the points I accumulated through various trips to London and India with HSBC. We were upgraded to a suite which was a great way to finish of what feels more like a holiday than travelling...

Jun 5, 2017 - A posh start to our Indonesia adventure

We arrived in Bali late so decided to stay close to the airport to meet up with Adam's friend Steve the next day and travel to the villa we had booked for the weekend together. We found a lovely restaurant for dinner serving mushroom and beef buns. These were so tasty. The area had a western feel to it and we instantly knew we loved this country. The next morning we met Adams friend Steve and his girlfriend and headed to our private villa for a luxurious weekend. The villa was stunning, the pool looked refreshing and the bedrooms looked...

Nov 25, 2016 - Off to Flores

Threw a load of pots, tea-bags & things out of our bags and did a 'can throw out if must' bag on top of necessities in our '7'kg bags before getting cab to airport RP1500,000 £9 Got straight through with our 'carry-on' bags although I was quite uncomfortable carting it around as it's very hot and bag heavy. 1 1/4 hour flight to Labuan Bajo, Flores with free water and a chocolate bun en-route! Free car to Bay View Gardens Hotel..WOW,WOW,WOW best view ever from our room. (which has no pots-doh!) Swam in the infinity pool & got great...

Nov 23, 2016 - Kuta, Bali

Bought 4 knickers from Woolworths $14 Cooked delicious porterhouse steak on the barbecue again. Highly recommend this hotel. 'Carry-on' bags were weighed at airport, mine was 10.3kg (should be 7) so had to go in hold. Tims was over 8kg but allowed thru. He kindly just paid the $40 extra for mine to go in the hold. 2 hour 50 min Air Asia flight to Denpasar, Bali. Prayers in English at back of their booklet quite amusing. Rip off £8 taxi to hotel in Kuta. VERY LOUD band playing at Grand I stand Ramadan hotel which is otherwise nice and Tim...

Apr 26, 2015 - Back to Bali...go to Tokyo

Bonjour!

Jan 16, 2015 - We end in Bali

We flew back into Denpasar on Tuesday Jan. 13. This time we stayed in Seminyak, a town 20 minutes or so north west of the airport. Since it was our last 3 nights in Bali, we decided some R&R was in order before returning home. Therefore, we stayed at a boutique hotel located on the beach and close to lots of shops, restaurants and spas! Before settling down by the beach and pool, we knew we had to go visit the Jimbaran Fish market. That meant an early morning wake up call by Trish's harp playing phone, with a few snoozes buttons to delay...

Sep 30, 2014 - Bali 4 - Way Back Home

Today I was the walking dead. Having slept all yesterday afternoon and 10 hours at night, I felt only a little better. In Indonesian fashion the boat was 2 hours late. Looks like I wasn't going to the cultural heart of Bali, Ubuud. Maybe another time. After the reverse journey back to Bali i had to confront the hostel about my missed payment, whoops! After this debacle all I could do is sleep when I got back to the room. A little depressed as well seeing as the trip was almost done and I had to leave my friends. I finally caught up a little...

Sep 29, 2014 - Gili Islands 2 - Burnout

Something didn't feel right today. Had a pain in my abdomen that breakfast and coffee couldn't shake, which means a problem. As the day wears on it gets worse and only a few naps and tanning on the beach with my friends eases it. In the afternoon my ridiculous amigos come up with a crazy idea. They want to hire a dingy boat and go harpoon fishing. It's so absurd, it would be something I'd do. Unfortunately I just couldn't do it. Of our group I was known as the person who does everything and never stops. I hit my limit today, I wasn't even...

Sep 28, 2014 - Gili Islands 1 - Far Away

An unexpected travel day today. Our group of friends were all trekking to the Gilli Islands, which are a group of 3 islands between Bali and Lombok. We were going to Gili Trawangan the biggest of the 3. Even still, you can walk the diameter of the island in 20mins. It's a piece of land purely devoted to tanning, snorkeling and cocktails. A minivan picked us up at the hostel at 7, we had crazy driving to get to east Bali where there's a dock for boats. Although the 2 hour drive was harrowing as usual, it was great to see the rice terraces,...
