Dec 30, 2006 - Candidasa, Bali, Indonesia

The only thing slower than the pace of life in Bali is the speed of the internet. We've been out of the loop for a while because an earthquake in Taiwan knocked out the main line to this part of the world, when the line was back up, there were power outages and the shops offer a speed only one milli-second above dialup. Oh well, we've been forced to hang out at the beach and get numerous cheap massages while waiting. Tough times. The weather has been on and off - either unbelieveably hot and humid (requiring multiple Bintang beers to fight...

Dec 25, 2006 - Sanur, Bali, Indonesia

Greetings from the Southern hemisphere! It was an interesting Christmas Day beginning with McBreakfast and ended with a flight from Singapore to Bali. We arrived without incident on Christmas Day to Sanur and were thrilled to spend Christmas evening with Keith and Susan Bell, good family friends of Brett's who live in Bali and run a large hotel. It was nice to be with "family" for the holidays. We spent the better part of the week relaxing at the pool and I spent my time fighting of ebola that I picked up at the end of the cruise and in...

Dec 25, 2006 - Kuta, Bali

I arrived in Bali on Christmas Day. Grandson Justin, (Jud), arrived from Timor about 30 minutes after I did. My suitcase arrived a week later. Only problem on the trip was in Phoenix Sky Harbor airport where I spent most of the 23rd. getting flights cancelled and delayed. I arrived at LAX about 30 minutes before my flight on China Air Lines was scheduled to leave. I hustled over to the Internationl Terminal where they were kind enough to hold my flight until I arrived. We spent 3 or 4 days in Kuta, staying in the Bali Dwipa Guest Houses for...

Dec 19, 2006 - expectations

Unfortunately we had fairly high expectations for the place we're staying in now, and it definitely did not meet those expectations. It's ok though 'cuz it's making us very ready to be done travelling. Tomorrow we're going snorkeling in the afternoon. We actually are also thinking about leaving here and staying someplace else, even though the week is already paid for. Anyway, we're not sure if we'll be getting back online again here either since the connection is REALLY slow. Happy Holidays everyone! We're really looking forward to getting...

Dec 16, 2006 - beautiful Bali

Bali is gorgeous! We spend one morning walking around Kuta Beach, then went to Ubud yesterday afternoon. Today we're also walking around Ubud and have purchased a few souvenirs---sorry no new clothes yet!! Last night we went to a traditional dance ceremony involving about 50 people and fire. It was really interesting and entertaining. We are looking forward to staying at Jimbaran Hills Resort for the next week on the southern part of Bali near Nusa Dua. It will be nice to completely relax before heading back to MN next Saturday. We rotated...

Dec 13, 2006 - photo update

These pictures are from Cameron Highlands, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. We're glad we are leaving Jakarta tomorrow evening. There's not a lot to do and the pollution is horrible. Our hotel is nice though, and there are many options for food very near to the hotel. We're very excited to get to Bali tomorrow! We'll be on Kuta Beach for one night, then up to Ubud for one night, then back down to the Jimbaran area south of Kuta for seven nights at a nice resort.

Dec 8, 2006 - Tirtagangga, Bali

Dec 6, 2006 - Indonesia - Bali

We checked out early at 6:45am for our 10hr boat & bus journey back to Kuta, this time we got on a small boat across to Lombok and the small port of Bangsal. Once here we boarded a bus to Sengiggi to board our "cruise" boat to Panang Bay on Bali and then another bus back to Kuta - phew! We have already decided that we want to come back and see Lombok and the rest of Indonesia, the little bit that we saw was beautiful. Lombok was very quiet and had a village feel about it, even the main port on the west coast had this feeling. With so much...

Nov 29, 2006 - Indonesia - Bali

We were heading for Indonesia's 'Malaga' as we boarded our Air Asia flight for Bali. Bali is famous for its many beaches, good dive sites and its night life. It was the perfect party town. That was until the bombs in 2002 and 2005, the latest ones are still impacting on the number of people who come to the island, as we found the place to be relatively quiet. We had been told not to bother with Kuta Beach as it was very tacky but it had all the cheap hotels so we jumped in a cab and set off to find our guesthouse called Fat Yogi's in...

Nov 29, 2006 - Bali - Kuta (Last night)

Back in Kuta, took 4.5 hours by bus, but given today is something approaching Christmas in Bali I was lucky to get that. Spent the afternoon surfing on the beach, until it got too busy around sunset (the locals turn out in the late afternoon and have a habbit of running you over if you get in their way. Nice...) Flying out to singapore at 13:45 tomorrow.
