Mar 5, 2007 - Kuta Again????

We basically have spent the last week or so vegetating here. Watching movies and going for the occasional dip. Beat, tired and drained, there is nothing better then watching hours on end of pirated movie after movie in your little AC hotel room when you need nothing more then a hot shower, your own bed, and a little timmy hoes. Its rained a lot here too. basically, this really is the beginning of the end. I cant believe it.

Mar 4, 2007 - All is good in Ubud..

Hi All Our day trip to the North of Bali to watch Dolphins didn't turn out quite as we expected. After prising ourselves from bed at 2.30am we set off on a rather winding road, ascending into mist covered forest roads and finally reached our destination at 5am... as we walked towards the beach and our tiny little fishing boat, we saw waves 2 meters high crashing and rolling into the shore line. Apparently there was a tornado out at sea but it would be o.k. if we went out slowly in our 5 man boat (!!!) Jamie quickly took over the situation...

Mar 2, 2007 - Bali good show!

Hi All. J & J are in Asia again!! After a short flight (2.5 hours) we landed in a very wet Bali (it seems J & J just can't escape the rain at the mo) at around 11.30pm yesterday evening. On first impressions Bali seems a lot more laid back than India... No one tried to rush off with our bags, only 1 person has asked for money and we've only been handed 4 "free" meal vouchers (a silly con that I won't bother to explain)! Although its a little wet, we've still done a bit of exploring and having looked around the local area (it all seems...

Feb 20, 2007 - Back to Kuta

Just here regrouping and prepping ourselves. We head to Gili today so this is going to be AWESOME! Not much to report. Some of you were likely wondering how we got around Bali. We rented bikes. Fucking crazy, I know. The traffic here is insane... the kind of insane that at one time I would have said, no way in heck will you ever catch me driving in that chaos... but I did it, I survived, and to be honest, after a few days of it, I was pretty damn good. Aggressive even. An animal. The adrenaline, the rush, the speed, life and death on two...

Feb 19, 2007 - Lake Bratan

Basically we planned to stop here, then we planned not to when we kept hearing how amazing the Gili islands are but to our dismay we got caught in a near tropical storm full of thundering rain and were soaked to the bone. We decided there was no way in heck we were going to make it back to Kuta. Then we got a place. Then we got showered. Then we realized there was literally NOTHING to do here. Then we tried to skip out. Then the hotel guy came up all smiles and we felt guilted into staying... that and technically its the right thing to...

Feb 16, 2007 - Bali -Kuta

Kuta, as in what most of you know traditionally as Bali proper is pretty much everything its legendary name has given it to live up too. I love this town to bits. The Balinese people are incredibly nice folks and although the pestering can be somewhat persistent, whenever you sit back and shoot the shit with a few of the off hours locals you get nothing but big smiles and good convo. Its really great. The weather is sickly hot. I put 2 litres in me and I spill 3 back out. Its a challenge just trying to stay hydrated. We have been surfing a...

Feb 5, 2007 - Nusa Dua, Bali

Nusa Dua is a ritzy, glam stretch of strand on the southern penisula. The beach is peppered with huge 5 star resorts, where you could rid yourself of $1000 to spend the night. We opted against that and are instead staying at a nice serviceable place on the beach sandwiched between two behemoths - the Grand Mirage and the Peninsula. There's a nice stone walkway along the entire beach, spanning 5KM, connecting all the resorts. So, it's easy to see how the other half lives. It's a little Miami beach meets Vegas down here actually. Usually not...

Feb 1, 2007 - Ubud, Bali

We stopped in Ubud, Central Bali...for one night. The truth is, although it is a nice artsy town, we missed the serenity of the coast and the sound of the waves crashing in. The honking horns and busy streets were too much for us. Cry me a river right? I know, I know what you're all thinking. Anyway, Ubud is full of little shops, galleries, great restaurants and spas. In Bali, and especially Ubud, you can pamper yourself for next to nothing. Facials are $4, that's right, $4 ladies, imagine that? Massages for $5 an hour? I'll take 6 of those...

Jan 29, 2007 - Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia

We're leaving Uluwatu tomorrow for Ubud, which is positioned in the central part of the island. Tough to leave this idyllic seafacing, clifftop setting. There's certainly a chance we may end up extending for another day here or even hit it again on the way back down south before we leave Bali. Wouldn't be hard to convince Natalie, as she's fallen in love with the place. We're both fearful that the rest of the island will fall short of the high bar that Uluwatu has set. How could it possibly get better than this? Went to the Uluwatu temple...

Jan 5, 2007 - Jimberan Bay, Bali, Indonesia

Uncle Peter and Dad picked us up on Saturday in Ubud and toured us around the area on our way to Jimberan Bay which is in the South of Bali. We visited a number of cool hotels built into the valley with amazing architecture and views. We were particularly impressed with the Four Seasons Ubud, which is built entirely into the side of the hill in the valley with observation points built out in pools of water accessible by bridges...very cool. I also think I saw Orlando Bloom there, but that's only after Peter told me Enrique and Anna like to...

Jan 4, 2007 - Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

In a last minute decision we decided to head into the hills and stay the night in the artist/coffee house community of Ubud. The area around Ubud is filled with art galleries and rice fields. The streets are packed with restaurants and coffee houses, a really great spot the spend the evening. We will try and get our pics from the Ubud monkey forest sanctuary up soon. Peter and Brian came to meet us on Saturday to head down to the south end of the island.

Dec 31, 2006 - Lembongan Island and Sunar Beach, Bali

We, Jud, H and I, went from Sunar out to Lembongan Island for one night. Jud and H dove, I read and the wind blew. Noodle soup and spring rolls were delicious. We spent about 5 nights in a motel in Sunar, went to a New Years Eve party at the home of friends of H. H is English, his wife, if I remember right is from Sweden, and the rest of the partiers were either English or Australian. They all speak English - sort of. Then the three of us took a trip around the island, stopping at Menjangan Island, Lovina and Tulamben. That's next.
