Feb 1, 2006 - 2/1/2006

Hello from India, The team is currently in Tezpur, Assam. The journey to Tezpur was 6 hours from Shillong. It took three cars to get everyone and the luggage here. During the last four days we have been in Shillong, Megalaya. On January, 31, we drove to Jonai. Some highlights include visits to hospitals, schools, breakfast with the Archbishop, banks, etc. Everyone is tired at this point and wanting to get some rest. The contrast of this culture are amazing. Our current hosts speak Hindi. In Shillong, they spoke Khasi and in Guwahati, the...

Jan 29, 2006 - 6000 feet up

Hi Everyone, Sara here. Shillong is fabulous and our hosts are amazing, very warm and generous. Karin and I have been up before 6am every morning until yesterday when we slept a little later. We've all spent a little more time together the last couple of days and it's been so fun. Yesterday we toured a small but very impressive call center which according to Don has phone technology that's 5 years out in the states, looked at their IT, and also toured a privately-owned hospital with great technology. Our rotary hosts are wonderful, totally...

Jan 28, 2006 - Safe and Sound in Shiilong the Scotland of the east

All is well in GSE land. We made it to Shiilong yesterday afternoon. It is truly amazing here. This town has been dubbed the Scotland of the East. It also has the honor of being the wettest place on the planet. Luckily we are here during the dry season. We are at a much higher elevation (5000 ft.) It is a little chilly here compared to Guwhati. With no heat and colder temps we will be sleeping with a few more blankets than normal. We are all doing well. Everybody is healthy and happy. I'm ready to head out the door to visit a hospital...

Nov 16, 2004 - Better

Hello, Well I am fully recovered now. And yes, I know, I am trying to be careful!! Believe it or not, it is more difficult than it seems to be sure that things are safe to eat and drink here.... I am doing my best. Given the amount of stuff my stomach has been through during this research project, I am generally pretty immune to most troubles. I still believe it was bad food at the guest house, since it did taste pretty off, and according to my book on travel health, my symptoms were consistent with food poisoning. But the doctor latched...
