May 10, 2006 - Goa - Hampi

HB: It's so d*mn hot! The heat follows us everywhere and respite from its uncomfortably close embrace is only ever temporary. Even air-conditioned, sealed rooms only serve to ill prepare you for the fiery onslaught that awaits you on the other side of the door. In Goa we managed by submerging ourselves in a tastefully designed pool shaded by tall swaying palms for hours on end or taking a stroll down to the beach to be cooled by the seabreeze and bottles of ice-cold Kingfisher. In Hampi we made a fateful decision to stay in a 'rustic'...

Jan 13, 2006 - The Magic of Hampi

" If dreams were made out of stone, it would be Hampi" Hampi truely is a magical place. It was the seat of the famed VIJAYANAGARA empire in the 14th century (largest empire in post-mogul India, covering several states). The empire reigned supreme under Krishnadevaraya, the Emperor. Although in ruins today, this capital city once boasted riches known far beyond the shores of India. The ruins of Hampi of the 14th Century lies scattered in about 26 sq. km area, amidst giant boulders and vegetation. Protected by the tempestuous river...

Apres la premiere journee de marche, on decide de louer des velos pour la...

Dec 22, 2004 - Return to Hampi

Friends, Well, we returned to Hampi today by train. We got up at 5:30AM to catch a taxi we had set up which wasn't there. It showed up about 25 minutes late and we made it to the train station with time to spare. We traveled three tier air conditioned which mean you have a bunk you can you if you want to take a nap. We are now on our own and traveling with Kendall and Connor who I think are shell shocked by the whole experience. Let me tell you that trying to make your own travel plans and reservations it much harder and anxiety provoking...

Oct 21, 2004 - Shanti Hampi!!!

We have finally found a place that is beautiful. HAMPI!!!This place is mad. It is so old with so much history it is amazing. It is alot cooler, cleaner and greener than Chennai and Bangalore. There are mountains, covered with huge boulders surrounding the main town. Also there are so many temples and ruins everywhere we decided to hire a motorbike. Firstly Curt had to recover from his sickness that begun on our 2 tier air-cond sleeper train. It was really nice so I felt really bad when I got such a good sleep (which we so needed after...
