Today I actually spent a little time shopping. My rickshaw driver was very pleased. He gets a coupon for a liter of gas everytime he brings someone in a shop. He probably got a cut as well so he was a happy camper. He took me to watch the weaving then of course inside "just to look." I bought a few things. The problem is everything I really like is super heavy, e.g. the iron ware I mentioned yesterday, large bronze statues and Tido sized wooden elephants. I am supposed to leave tomorrow night, but I just learned there is an air traffic...

India On My Own

Feb 22, 2010 - Back in Bangalore

I visited the Jewish quarter in Fort Cochin before I left. The synagogue is really cool, no pictures inside of course. Now I am back in Bangalore. I leave in two days. I am really trying to fix the sights of India in my mind. I know I will be back, but it could be a long time. So many places to go.... Also, I have bought nothing, not one souvenir. So I guess I will have to get busy. What I would really like to buy is the extensive iron ware they have here. Huge iron pots and griddles. I tried to pick up one fairly small piece. Very heavy....

Mar 3, 2008 - Bengalaru (aka Bangalore)

Bangalore (name changed to Bengalaru in 2006 - why do Indian cities keep doing that??) is the city most Indians are proud of as they like to think of it as the showcase for the New India. 'Its the most wired city in the world' they proudly boast. I don't doubt that there are more fibre optics per square metre than anywhere else on the planet, but above ground call this IT and call centre capital of the world is one huge traffic jam with pollution to match, and with nothing to see.
