As promised some photos of Goa and the rest of Kochin...although there are dolphins in Goa there are no whales so the big white whale you see is just me getting out of the beach. Nov 11, 2006 - Palolem, Goa
Goa is without a doubt one of the nicest places we have been all trip. We are at a sleepy little beach called Palolem and we are loving it. Prices are almost identical to Delhi, with only a slight mark up which means we get all the benefits of paradise with none of the BS. The country side is stunning here. Water is murky so snorkeling is lacking but the pristine untouched beaches are fantastic. We are staying in a little beach hut right on the beach and basically just eating, drinking, swimming, and lazing. Its everything I hoped for. A...Jump to full entry
Oct 25, 2006 - Life's a beach
Hi All So here we are in Goa. We have reached a small fishing village called Benaulim and last night we tucked into some fresh tiger prawns and shark. It was absolutely delicious and so nice to finally eat something other than vegetables. I also managed to find some rather lovely white wine - although I didn't realise that it was much stronger than the pinot, so Jamie had to 'guide' me back to our guest house after just 3 glasses!! Lying on the beach all day has given me some time to reflect on our little tour of North India and i thought...Jump to full entry
Oct 23, 2006 - Goa
Its goa'n off....with the local Indian pervert!! Its absolutely hilarious (yet at the same time frustrating) to watch these guys wander around the beach in there long pants, long shirt, office shoes and 1970's porno moustache thinking they are invisible to western women. They will blatently stand either right in front of a sunbaking tourist or stand next to her and get their friend to take a photo. But saying that, Goa has been the highlight of the trip so far. Every day we pulled up a couple of sunloungers and an umbrella and got our...Jump to full entry
Oct 16, 2006 - The Amazing Flea Circus
"Roll up. Roll up. And see a sight more astounding than the sham marriage of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Yes for the price of one cheap, double room in Palolem you too can witness the magnificent spectacle of the Amazing Flea Circus! Watch as the little critters feast upon the pale white skin of Chelsea. Marvel at the 30-40 bites that adorn the body of Miss Edwards. Never before have the fleas feasted so well!" Yes that's right we really have stayed in a flea pit...But only Chelsea was affected. I have come off scott free. But Chels is...Jump to full entry
Oct 14, 2006 - Chilled out in Goa!
Well, we've survived our flight to Goa...The airline didn't catch fire even though it was Friday 13th! And, just as importantly, our bowels have survived another couple of days in India...From now on this site shall have regular "Shit-site" Updates...where you'll all be able to get regular updates on the state of Jon and Chels' large intestines - cos that's what most of you seem to ask about! Thanks for all the birthday messages yesterday - it was a quiet one. After arriving in Goa we managed a meal, a couple of 'Gin Fizz' and a fairly...Jump to full entry
Sep 3, 2006 - A week in India...
Well it has now been a week since my tearful goodbye to England! I don't think my cats quite understood as I sobbed into their fur last Sunday morning!! As you can imagine the airports were stressful, well actually Heathrow was stressful, Mumbai and Goa were a breeze! We are still adjusting to Indian life, well I am, Simon seems to have slipped into it very easily, well not too hard when beers cost 50p and you can buy amazing curry everywhere! I am still getting used to the dogs, chickens, cows, no toilet roll (don't ask!!) and bugs the...Jump to full entry
Aug 17, 2006 - Goa-Benaulin
Ja hem arribat a Goa! AdeuuuuuuuJump to full entry
So i've returned to Panaji because I ordered a kick-anus guitar case(because frigging British Airways somehow broke my should-be-invinsible case before I had even arrived in India) and it's arriving today at noon! I'm slightly excited! Then if all goes according to plan, which it never seems to do in this country, I'll be leaving for Mumbai at about 3 and arriving there early tomorrow morning. One thing i've completely forgotten to note about Goa is that the humidity is almost unbearable! Like, I'm constantly accumulating goop in my throat...Jump to full entry
Jul 2, 2006 - Panaji!
In Panaji now. It was actually REALLY hard to leave Palolem yesterday. I've decided that Goa is like a trap......I really only planned to stay there for maybe two days and it turned into nearly six! It was sort of like a vacation within a vacation. All of the hard things about India don't really exist here, which is, I GUESS, why it is tourist central. Very little pollution, virtually no beggars, jungle and vegetation still in it's original state, lots of open space, good hygienic food, and very few people trying to rip you off. After being...Jump to full entry
Jun 16, 2006 - Being interviewed on TV and stopped by the police in Goa
From Delhi it was then onto the train and down the coast to Goa. After the efficency of the trains in China it felt more like home when my train was an hour late setting off from Delhi. Arriving in Goa I expected (from what my guidebook had said) it to be pouring with rain but was nicely surprised to find the weather was excellent - nice and hot and sunny (got my suntan back after watching it fade in China). The monsoon according the locals hadn't yet started (and was very late this year as it usually starts at the end of May) and there...Jump to full entry
May 1, 2006 - Made it to India ...
Hello everyone We've made it to India, and are experiencing our first challenge - trying to get from Goa to Cochin when the train has to be booked two weeks in advance. We think we've found a way using a combination of a cheapish plane and a train that doesn't need two weeks notice. Fascinating country - no rats or mice spotted yet, but dogs everywhere, which surprised me a bit. We've had some great, um, fun being driven around so far. You definitely put your life in the hands of the taxi drivers here. I'm not sure why they bother with...Jump to full entry
