Jan 8, 2007 - Goa

Hello, Our time in Goa relaxing, drinking and dancing is nearly over. And to be honest that is all there really is to do in Goa. I can see how backpackers, or Hippies as the locals call us, can get stuck in Goa sitting on the beach smoking and listening to the chilled out music with no real challenges. But we are looking for something a bit more exciting and are keen to move on to Rajasthan. That's certainly not to say I haven't enjoyed my time in Goa. We've followed the parties round from Anjuna to Vagator. I'm certainly not going to...

Jan 6, 2007 - Lotus Eating In Palolem

Happy New Year to everyone! I'm feeling a little bereft today as two new friends went home this morning. When I was in Hampi a few weeks ago I met a lovely couple from Yorkshire called Harriet and Adrian. On an excursion to Arambol from Anjuna just before New Year I fortuitously bumped into Harriet again in a hostelry. "Of all the bars in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine." We spent a somewhat traumatic New Year together and subsequently came down to Palolem in S. Goa where I am now. New Year is my least favorite...

Jan 3, 2007 - Happy New Year!

Hello, I hope you all had a great NYE and 2007 has started well.I have had a fantastic start to 2007 and now think every new year should be celebrated in the sun. We had origionally planned on spending NYE in a place called Disco Valley in Vagator about 25 min from where we were staying in Candolim. However when we went to get a taxi we were told it would take 1-2hrs with all the traffic and cost about 12 pounds and god knows how much to get back. So we made the decision to stay where we were and ended up having a fantastic time with all...

Dec 30, 2006 - Goodbye Mumbai - Our first mini adventure

Hello again, Lucy had a few issues with her website yesterday and lost everything she wrote so we are back in an internet cafe again today. However that does give me a chance to tell you about all the fun we were having last night. (The letters have worn off the keys on the computer i'm using so apologies if some of the words are wrong). After I emailed last night we managed to find all the westoners in a restaurant. Where we bravely tried the local curry. Lucy ordered Chicken Tika, mushroom rice and garlic naan, the waiter thought I was...

Dec 27, 2006 - The Pilgrimage to Mecca

India can be all too much sometimes! From Hampi I took a very bumpy overnight bus to Goa and emerged bleary eyed and bruised in Panjji at dawn. This was not my final destination but we were suddenly told that the bus was now stopping here and the two remaining passengers, a guy from Denmark and I were to take a minibus for the last part. The "minibus" was a beaten up old coach with most of the seats missing and replaced with eight overflowing oil drums full of diesel, the contents of which were swimming around the floor and filling the...

Dec 26, 2006 - Goa.........................

So, he arrives at Goa airport, grabs his bag and is met by a gorgeous lady from the Marriott who's waiting with an ice cold coke on a silver tray. A porter grabs the luggage and takes it to the waiting car, idling away to keep the AC running. It's like pop star treatment, everyone is watching - probably very jealous - wondering who this guy is. Little do they know it's just an Aussie backpacker splashing out for xmas, but I keep that bit of info tucked away. And so began my week in Goa.... Although I was only spending one night at the...

The Wanderer

Dec 23, 2006 - Palolem - Goa

After flying out of Rajasthan, we arrived in Palolem Goa to find a tropical beach paradise complete with white sands, warms seas, palm trees and a lady who sells fresh pineapple from a bowl on her head for $1/50p for a whole one!! She even cuts it up for you! It's also the one place we found in India where beer is dirt cheap. Lots more tourists and so lots more Christmas fanfare as well which was nice. We went on a short boat cruise and saw some dolphins in the bay, but the lazy buggers wouldn't jump right out of the water for us like we'd...

Begbies on Tour

Dec 19, 2006 - Goa - Panjim

Goa has been a complete surprise, the climate is almost perfect, hot sunny days with hardly any humidity, the evenings are cool. We were really fortunate to have picked Panjim as our base in Goa as it was just so beautiful, quiant and full of historic charm. Narrow streets winding round brightly coloured homes and shops, you could stroll amongst the lanes all day discovering hidden-away cafes, restaurants and some wonderful run-down old buildings of Portuguess influence, taty but still full of charm. Panjim can only be discribe in...

Dec 10, 2006 - Goa, Betalbatim Beach- Thanks to Mo and Ryan!

Our friends Mo and Ryan got a villa in Goa for a week through a silent auction at Tuck, where Ryan is attending business school. Little did they know at the time, they wouldn't be alone. Upon hearing of the villa, we immediately added India to our itinerary. So did others. The 4 bedroom house was constantly full with overflow onto the couch in the living room. Betalbatim Beach in Goa is a relaxed and uncrowded ocean retreat. This beach tends to draw mostly Russian visitors, who come to escape the harsh Russian winters, drink bottles of Old...

Get It INDIA!

Nov 11, 2006 - Palolem, Goa

Goa is without a doubt one of the nicest places we have been all trip. We are at a sleepy little beach called Palolem and we are loving it. Prices are almost identical to Delhi, with only a slight mark up which means we get all the benefits of paradise with none of the BS. The country side is stunning here. Water is murky so snorkeling is lacking but the pristine untouched beaches are fantastic. We are staying in a little beach hut right on the beach and basically just eating, drinking, swimming, and lazing. Its everything I hoped for. A...

Oct 23, 2006 - Goa

Its goa'n off....with the local Indian pervert!! Its absolutely hilarious (yet at the same time frustrating) to watch these guys wander around the beach in there long pants, long shirt, office shoes and 1970's porno moustache thinking they are invisible to western women. They will blatently stand either right in front of a sunbaking tourist or stand next to her and get their friend to take a photo. But saying that, Goa has been the highlight of the trip so far. Every day we pulled up a couple of sunloungers and an umbrella and got our...
