Aug 13, 2011 - Palolem

We entertained a few ideas about how to explore Goa; the front runners being by renting a car, or by renting Royal Enfield Bullets. Given the weather/rain situation, we decided to go with the car option, which, in retrospect, was not such a bad decision. We rented a red I10 from this guy Simplicio. His assistant, Spirit, candidly told us that they were not a registered rental agency, and if the cops stopped us, we'd need to tell them that we were Simplicio's buddies. Along with Spirit, we checked dents and scratches on the car, while a...

Goa, India

Dec 21, 2010 - Goa (Palolem)

Nov 23, 2009 - Week 3

Hi everyone - managed to get a good amount of time on the internet today as we are leaving Goa. We arrived on 12th November very late in Palolem, South Goa and checked in to a lovely little guesthouse. We immediately felt better - the air was clear - we could actually breathe! Had a couple of really nice days being lazy and soaking up some sunshine. We were really lucky as there had been a cyclone (not as bad as it sounds!) a couple of days before we arrived. Unfortunately on Sunday morning Laura took a turn for the worst and actually ended...

Travelling Hamstyle

Nov 4, 2009 - Goa

Sorry for being a bit rubbish so early on during our trip but we'll post a proper entry soon - just wanted to upload the photos (which takes lightyears) and let everyone know we are alive and well tanned and not burnt, and still no stomach bugs... Off to the beach now to catch our last sunset in Goa before hopping onto the non air conditioned non sleeper coach to Hampi where alcohol is banned so we'll have lots of time to upload our blog. :) Elina and Karo xxxx

Oct 25, 2009 - Seguimos disfrutando de la Playa =)

Espanol despues..... FER: Hello once again and still from Palolem =) I don't remember where I left off last time or what the date is or even what actual day it is =) (Trust me it's awesome) The day we arrived here in Palolem we checked into these very nice huts, but since we've moved FOUR times. The place has gotten better and better each time, but we're now paying a quarter of what we payed the first two nights. Let me give you an idea of what a day might be like for us here: Wake up around 9ish shower and get breakfast at one of many...

Oct 18, 2009 - Hello from Palolem, GOA

English at the bottom =) FER: Hola como andamos? =) FER: A...

Apr 1, 2009 - Palolem, Goa (Part 2)

Palolem 11th March – 8th April 2009 We settled into our apartment after a while. It was weird after the beach huts and it took sometime. Plus the clock was ticking with only 4 weeks left of our little “holiday” and the realisation of returning to England and the scary task of finding jobs etc was sinking in and making us a bit depressed. It passed though and we had a really relaxing finish. During our last week, we eventually managed to lure ourselves away from the beach at Palolem and hired a scooter for a couple of days to visit turtle...

Mar 22, 2009 - Palolem, Goa

Palolem Beach, Goa 25th February – Present day, 2009 Palolem beach is like paradise – a beautiful bay backed up by swaying coconut groves. We arrived here on 25th February via yet another overnight train from Cochin in Kerala. On the train, we met Eve who was also on route to Palolem. She suggested we all stayed at Big Banana Beach shack, so we did. Turned out to be an excellent decision. We spent our first ten days living in a coco beach hut. James called it the “Wendy house” – as they are a bit flimsy but served the purpose of...

Feb 7, 2009 - Goa

Still feeling guilty about putting Sara through the endurance of the previous night's bus ride, it was with a huge sense of relief to arrive (looking like refugees at this point) at friendly Palolem in Goa. Palolem has a beautiful beach and everything you need for a few days relaxing and chilling in the sun. Typical holiday spot, with bars and cafes selling western food etc. In a way it feels like you have come back out of India again by coming to Goa, which is it's only real downside. So many travellers never make it further than Goa when...

Indonesia and India

Feb 6, 2009 - Palolem

Ahh Palolem, how I love Palolem, definately on my top three list of favourite places I've hung out at on this trip. Its the combination of a decent beach and others within easy reach, a good enough night life without the excess and a good variety of decent food that do it for me. Caz and I found accomodation at one of her old haunts, the new owners at my old haunt unfortunately making it less of an attractive option this year. We settled into a life of doing very little which is the way it should be of course, and loved it. We made met...

Where's Malcolm?

Dec 10, 2008 - Palolem via Calangute,Mapusa,Margao, etc.

Yesterday(9th) we had planned to come here but getting a late start, visiting the docs, visiting Lisa at Right Surgeon, etc...we decided to head back to Anjuna for one more nite. So this morning we surprised everyone at Yash Restaurant and our autorickshaw driver by showing up one more time,(after we had said good bye yesterday),ha! In Calangute we shipped a box back home which took til noon(in India they sew all boxes up in cloth bags which fit the box exactly). Then it took four buses and 6 hours to get down here to this kind of out of...

Nov 17, 2008 - Diwali in Goa and other parts of my life

Greetings! It's been a while since I have had the time to maintain this site. I had a very busy and intense summer in St. Paul at the University of St. Thomas. I passed my oral comp exam, which was the most important aspect of my summer. I also took a Dalcroze course and a thesis writing class. I am now working on my thesis, albeit slowly. I am finding it extremely difficult to do this thesis during the school year. Most of my time is devoted to school. So, I haven't found a proper balance yet. I am studying the degree to which...
