Dec 5, 2014 - Bodhgaya

November 29, 2014 I have more to add to my journal. I posed some yesterday. I had to finish editing November 17, 2014. It’s done now. I need to post it. I didn’t do fuck all at Bodhgaya except buy Manish the ring he wanted, used the ATM and recharged the mobile. I didn’t even go to the tree. Fuck there was a lot of backshesh boys. I couldn’t even shake them with my ‘story’. I just laid low and watched the tele. Today rode about 250 KM’s. We are at the turn off to start heading south. We finish Bihar and entered West Bengal. Oct 18, 2009 - Bodhgaya

A short 5 hour train ride from Varanasi took us to Bodhgaya, famous as the place where Buddha gained enlightenment 2500 years ago while meditating underneath a Bodhi tree. The town has only a small, permanent population (~30 thousand), but pilgrims from all Buddhist nations come here to study, pray and visit this spiritual place. HIGHLIGHTS · Two hour line up at the train station for naught! · A broken down auto-rickshaw that didn’t really break but the driver tried to take me for two rides · No room at the inn but after a two hour search I am staying in a Tibetan Monastery · A new friend helps me around the place and has started to drop hints · A rude awakening DETAIL – I awake and my roomy has departed – didn’t hear a thing. So I have the place to myself and prepare to leave. But first check emails and then to the train station. I arrive bang on time for ‘Recess’...

Jun 7, 2007 - India Isn't Done With Us Yet ... Learning Anew in Bodhgaya (Matt & Laura)

Matt: We're jammed into the back of a jeep unable to move and barely able to breathe. One of our packs lays across our laps. There are seven adults and four children pressed into seats built for four. The temperature is about 45 degrees. A young child starts gnawing on the corner of our pack. The light streaks in its hair are signs of malnutrition, Laura learned recently. Outside, fruit and vegetable stands are set-up beside piles of garbage. A man pisses against a wall. An eardrum searing horn blasts beside us. We're in a shared jeep to...
