Jan 25, 2013 - TOP OF THE WORLD
Many travellers when asked what was the one place they'd recommend as a "can't miss" told us - Iceland. They weren't wrong. What a fascinating place, and we could only reach about a tenth of it because of weather! Our plan was to spend almost three weeks here, driving the perimeter of the island known as the Ring Road to see the different regions. We rented a car and headed up the west coast to a small town called Borganes. This, we read, would be the ideal location to see the Aurora Borealis - wide open, dark skies and no mountains to...

Jan 8, 2013 - Flight to Germany
In regards to my flight to Germany I have to say that it was uneventful. I flew out of Seattle with Icelandic Air to Reykjavik, Iceland and then from there to Frankfurt Germany. Icelandic Air is the first airline that I have experienced that does not feed their customers on international flights. You have to buy your own lunch from them. Other that that the flight attendants were really nice and all very beautiful. Somehow inbreeding works for them. Oh, and they name all their planes after some mountain or other place.

Nov 8, 2012 - Lake Myvatn, Akureyri, and on to Reykjavik
This morning there is lots of sun shine here at Lake Myvatn making things very Brite reflecting off the snow, as I head off to Akureyri the capital of north Iceland (a town of about 18,000 people) and for my plane that will take me back to Reykjavik. A very nice drive about 90KM from Lake Myvatn through the snow covered lands, seeing lots of the Iceland horse in the pastures along the road, past a few small patches of evergreen trees not native to Iceland but now a few farmers are planting them, most of the trees here are Birch trees and...

Oct 30, 2012 - Fire and Ice
Monday October 29th Iceland photos https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152231811760707.921360.746395706&type=3 We at the bus stop outside the hotel just on 9am, the airport bus is due two stops up the road at 9.06, but we are still waiting 40 minutes later so Tony rings the bus company. They say all is running to time, and they will ring back. We are annoyed because it is a premium phone number, so it costs us a lot extra to call them. Twenty minutes later we call back and they say there have been two buses go past our stop since...

Oct 24, 2012 - The land of ice and fire
WOW!!! what more can I say? Iceland is beautiful and I definately have to come back in the summer. Although it is bloody freezing at the moment (no I didn't bring enough warm clothing) and I didn't get to see the northern lights - BOO - and I got see sick on the whale watching tour and didn't see the whales - double BOO - I have had a great time. Reykjavik itself is quite small compared to other capital cities which was expected in a country whose population is approx 800,000. There are plenty of colourful buildings but as they were mainly...

Sep 2, 2012 - Iceland Revisited
@@@@@@@ We had an absolutely fantastic week in Iceland last year in September 2011 and enjoyed flying with Icelandair. We decided to fly with them once again, and thought stopping in Iceland for one night would be a great way to break up the long flight into manageable segments. We had discovered a terrific guesthouse near the airport and planned to rent a car for a day in order to explore the nearby peninsula. Our flight landed around 6:30am local time and the owner of the guesthouse drove the short distance to pick us up. Other guests...

Aug 4, 2012 - day 2 Iceland - Horseback Riding
Woke up this morning at about 8am and left the jet lag behind. Beautiful sunny day today! Went to breakfast at the hotel and found that they had a very nice free breakfast for all guests (cereal, toast, jams, ham, coffee, yogurt, etc). Filled up and Greg played a game of chess with Max (Max won in a grueling battle). Headed back to the room to get ready for the day. Kathleen and Max went to the grocery store to pick up a few items and then we went to the hotel lobby to await our bus to the horse farm. Arrived at the horse farm and got...
