Aug 16, 2012 - Unda da sea!
We were up early to get the hell out of dodge and at the boat by 7:30am under the direction of our taxi man from the night before who picked us up again, this chap was an absolute character! Small middle aged black man with barely no English save for, "when I see the white faces at the bus stop last night I go yiiippppeeee!". We also got treated to his favourite old American country music with him yipe'ing along and taking a real shine to Niall! This was all well and good but it was a pity we only found out the boat left at 9:30am as he...Jump to full entry
Mar 29, 2012 - Diving!
Final day of diving in Utila. Took a camera, so we got some good photos and some not so good ones. Saw amazing stuff yesterdays, turtles, toad and scorpion fish, but didn't have the camera....so you are stuck with these ones....oh well! Tomorrow we are off to Livingston and the Rio Dulce! Can't add captions at the moment because the server is overloaded with everything I just added. So will get captions on there when I get a chance. Added pictures to Antigua and Copan Ruinas, check them out!Jump to full entry
Mar 23, 2012 - Utila
12 hour trip to the island, including a super rocky boat ride that had about 10 people filling up plastic bags that were being handed out by the captain. I was happy to report that I wasn't sick at all which is a big surprise considering my history! Anyway we will be roughing it here for a week. I will try to add photos to here and the earlier posts when I can other wise you can check my travel post from when I was 19 to see phtotos.Jump to full entry
Sep 30, 2011 - Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras
We arrived in Utila last Saturday (September 24th) to begin our open water diving certification. And, after our first open water dive, we were completely addicted. Being 15 to 30 meters underwater is a completely different world and when you are scuba diving, you get such a better perspective of it. So we ended up staying 3 extra days to complete our advanced open water certification, which was awesome. Staying in a place longer then expected is starting to become a common trip theme. But we just fell in love with diving, which is...Jump to full entry
Sep 18, 2011 - Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum :)
14th-18th Sept- Utila Bay Island, Honduras So, we've just waved Cat and the Americans off on the ferry back to there volunteering and I'm currently writing this blog sat in a chair in the sea, the sun is shining which is a bonus after all the torrential rain we've been having on and off as its hurraine season! The tan is coming on nicely :) the only bad thing is I'm getting eaten alive by chuffing sand flies! Grrr! We have been on Utila for 5 days now with various people from Cat's volunteering, firstly Jergi the German, who I have only...Jump to full entry
Sep 16, 2011 - scuba diving with the stoners!!!!!!!
after a couple of days in Utlia we got fed up of lying about doing nuthin and drinking rum so we decide to go scuba diving.....now I dont feel comfortable under the water after nearly drowing on holiday when i was 7/8 but I couldnt not have given it ago given were I was and the sights I would see under the water. I have to admit I was nervous by the time I was on the boat with all the equipment on, and was worried about being able to breath properly!!...I stood at the end of the boot and did what the instructor told me, which was to take a...Jump to full entry
Jul 1, 2011 - Honduras
From care-free Guatemala we ventured into beautiful Honduras. After a full day of travelling to get to the pretty Honduran town of Copan, we anticipated a long trip the next day to our final destination of Utilla, however, we did not anticipate the relative luxury that we would be travelling in, an "Old Greyhound Bus" with fully reclining seats and enough headroom for Bakkies and Victor. The luxurious trip came to an abrupt halt when we arrived in La Ceiba to take our ferry to Utila. "Ferry" may not be the most accurate description of this...Jump to full entry
Jul 23, 2010 - Utila
I LOVE this island. This is definitely the best place I have been on my trip. The main reason is the Bay Islands are not in rainy season, so the weather has been perfect every day. There is basically one road that runs through the island with restaurants, bars and dive shops. We stayed at Alton's Dive Centre which was really cool - loads of people diving every day and it also had a jetty with hammocks that you could chil on, looking out to the Caribbean. Niamh decided to do a beginners' diving course but enjoyed it so much ended up getting...Jump to full entry
Jul 18, 2010 - Honduras - Diving at Utila
As we made the long journey across Guatemala and Honduras to the Bay Islands we were so excited to get back to the Caribbean. Luckily this time mother nature was on our side and promised us sunny skies for the week ahead. Utila in the Bay Islands was one of the places we had both being looking forward to for so long. Along with being a beautiful island in the Caribbean it was the place we would both do our Open Water 1 Dive Courses. We chose Altons Dive Centre, its one of the most popular on the island and I am not surprised. Our room was...Jump to full entry
Jun 27, 2009 - Bay Islands, Honduras
Honduras journal entry It was some seriously happy times when we arrived at Utila in the Bay Islands off the Honduras coast. The sun was out for the first time in over a week as most of our time in Guatemala was spent experiencing the rain of ‘rain forest!’ With the sun came the heat and as the six of us (Goldies, Holleys, and our Angelino friends Jeremy and Sam) walked the main street of Utila; we were pushing some serious beads of sweat! We have to take a small interlude here to thank our new president JayZee for whatever he’s doing with...Jump to full entry
Jun 26, 2009 - Honduras - scuba diving
HONDURAS (John) Having walked the island and checked every option available we were dripping with sweat. Eventually we settled on Altons Dive school. Altons is a very chilled spot near the end of Utila, it offered NAUI diving, had adequate accommodation, great dive instructors and a cool, chilled vibe. Patters, T and I signed up for the 5 day dive course. (Rooks has already done hers) Cracker deal of 6 dives, dive lessons, 5 nights accommodation and a T shirt for $249. We settled into our rooms, filled the fridge with food, water and beers...Jump to full entry
Mar 28, 2009 - Paradise.
So I spent a few days in Granada after the girls left which was nice. Nicaragua loves their baseball so on the Sunday afternoon, a Canadian who I'd met and I cabbed it out to the baseball field (which had goats running around the outside of it. Very different to Fenway). It was Granada vs. Managua (the capital of Nicaragua) and apparantly it was a pretty important game. It was also a double header, and the first game Granada got anialated... which sucked. Anyway second game starts and by the start of the 3rd inning Granada are winning 9-0....Jump to full entry
