May 30, 2005 - All I Got in OMAO was this Stupid Rash
So I was recommended to stop in Omao to break up the journey to La Cebia and then to Utila, so I took the recommendation. Mistake. The bus rides to Honduras were flawless and pretty timely, a little busy but they had it down. Off one and they would shout to another bus or mini bus they would spin around grab your backpack and squeeze you in. So anyway I get over the border and the chicken bus was a nightmare, were the road rather, it was so bumpy that I thought I was getting car sick, but didn't. So I get off the bus at my stop, Omao. Just a pitstop. Even leaving Utila on the dawn ferry, it´s too far to travel to the Guatemala border in one day, at least if, like me you like to get where you{re going before nightfall. In fact I reckon that´s my most unbreakable travel rule, especially when I{m travelling alone to a new place. Still, it{s a very pretty pitstop, the hostel is great and even though Lonely Planet describes the beach as "average at best" it{s certainly nice to be able to cool off with a dip after 8 hours on the road, most of it standing up in a chicken bus.

I decided to break up the journey a bit with a night in Rolly's place. Everythign was fin until the next morning when I found a dog who's stitches had split, spilling a section of it's intestine and some other tissue, which I'm hoping wasn't too important. We operated, feeding the intestine back, and Rolly cutting off any untidy bits he didn't like the look of, before stitching the bitch back up.
