Jan 17, 2020 - Grenada
Jan 17 Grenada Fun Fact: The "Isle of Spice", this is one of the world's foremost producers of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. It's soil is fertile because of it's volcanic origins. We arrived in St. George's around 730 or so. As we were coming towards the port around 5:50 am, there were already sailboats out on the water. It was already pretty hot. I think this is our southernmost port. Our position is Latitude 120 degrees 03' 05" and Longitude 61 degrees 45' 24". We usually wait a bit to get off the ship if we aren't doing an...

Jan 26, 2018 - St George's, Grenada
Some work on my blog this morning now up to date, checked emails then a walk next door for some breakfast. Then a short walk down the hill to get a local bus to the central part of St George, the bus is minivans with a driver and a money taker which travel the main streets picking up people, and I must say it is quite a experience riding in one. LOL There are a cheap way to get around 4 caribbean dollar compared to the cost of a taxi 60 caribbean dollars for the same trip. Spent the morning walking around St George a small town around a...

Oct 14, 2017 - Grenada
So finally a week of speaking to other people, we have been looking forward to this. We flew into Grenada airport and met dad there. The lovely George picked us up and took us to the port where we found Matt and Sarah and our captain for the week, Dexter. We had a super week learning our fenders from our tenders and all the sailing jazz covering areas in the Grenadines and St Vincent. We did loads of snorkelling and found some beautiful hawkesbill turtles inTobago Cayes, not bad for dads first snorkelling adventure. We ate like kings for...

Mar 19, 2011 - Mayreau Island, Grenadines
The program could not find this island. It looks for cities and there are no major cities. Saturday, March 19, 2011 White sand, the bluest sea, a tropical breeze, palm trees, sail boats drifting by…what could be more perfect? That was my morning on Mayreau Island in The Grenadines. I took a book along and found a group of familiar faces at some picnic benches and we just soaked up the scene. Dave approached me with a suggestion that I climb up to the church to take a picture of the beautiful view of the surrounding islands. He was making me...

Mar 18, 2011 - Grenada
Friday, March 18, 2011 Spices greet us at the spice growing island of George’s Granada, the principal spice-growing island in the western hemisphere, producing one fifth of the world’s supply of nutmeg, as well as cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, saffron and mace. We arrive on reclaimed land that makes up the pier and esplanade built ten years ago. We drive in two mini-vans as our driver/guide points out points of interest along the way, like when passing the cemetery, “We are now in the dead center of St. George”. There are nine black sand...

Apr 18, 2009 - Carriacou Island
On to Carriacou! A nice sail up the coast of Grenada. Keld caught a nice tuna which made two great meals. A shark took the tail before we pulled it on board. Carriacou is about 30 nautical miles north. Population 9000 Grenada consists of 3 main Islands. We cleared out of Grenada in Carriacou at Hillsbororough. We ended up staying a few night in Tyrrel Bay waiting for better weather. We had a lot of wind!

Apr 15, 2009 - St George, Grenada
I arrived in St George, Grenada in the evening. The flight was full which apparently is unusual so it took the two immigration officials one and a half hours to clear us all. Patience is a virtue! On the plane were quite a few American med students. There is a large private American Medical school called St George Medical School and they were finishing “Spring Break”. It is a graduate program and they do their first 2 years here before going back to the States to complete two more practical years in a hospital. It is a big help to the...

Apr 19, 2007 - Monstrous Number Twos and other perils as we prepare to sail to Panama
Well what a week it has been! Apart from overcoming jetlag I have had to deal with two one-sided games of cricket and a blocked toilet. But more about that later... After a trip into St George town on Friday it was off to the cricket - Sth Africa versus New Zealand on Saturday. The pitch was very lively in the humid conditiions and the poor Sth Africans got off to a bad start and unfortunately never recovered. The much anticipated game became a bit dull as New Zealand ground their way to an inevitable victory. Undaunted, we sought out and...
